The family can put what they want on the tombstone. Most departments put up some type of memorial at the office.
There is also a national memorial in Washington DC. When an officer dies in the line of duty, his name is added to the memorial.
The family and an honor guard from the dept are invited to Washington for the ceremony.

For those who make jokes, these men died trying to save and protect ignorant morons like you.

For the most part...no. A plain and simple stone with nothing heroic of fancy on it. Some may I guess but most of the inspector funeral's I've been to are like anyone else's except attended by loads of other police oficers.

I'm 3rd generation law enforcement so excuse me if I don't laugh at the "Dunkin Donuts" jokes, esp. regarding a cop's funeral.

While we're on the subject - why is it that the guys I work with are mostly in damn good shape (like a lot of cops are these days) while the rest of the free world is getting morbidly obese - and yet we don't have jokes about accountants, admins and engineers eating donuts.

There is no standard epitath. It's up to the family. Sometimes they just put a graphic of his badge on it.

It depends upon what the family wants to do; or if he had his arrangements pre-planned.

I think the workers from the local Dunkin Donuts add something to the epitaph.
