I am sick and tired of everything being geared towards those barbarians. They have shown what they are by blowing people up around the world and by beheading. More recently, they have shown their true colours by killing an innocent nun and calling for the Holy Father to be murdered. The icing on the cake was their telling a Government Minister - the Home Secretary no less - that he had no right to enter a 'Muslim Area.' How much more of this should we take? I would not wish to be buried in the same cemetery as a Muslim. This is a Christian country and we have tolerated this problem for too long. We are now seeing British-born Muslims turning traitor and joining extremist groups while their parents reject the Home Secretary's request that they look out for anything suspicious. If someone is not for our country, they are against it and should be dealt with accordingly.

One struggle in countries with multicultural populations is respecting rites and traditions of the many cultures and faiths that now inhabit that country. Here in the U.S. (at least in my area). If muslims wish to be buried in a public cemetery, they have no choice but to be buried in line with everyone else, regardless of religion. This keeps the cemeteries neat and tidy and in line. Muslims here also have been allowed to start their own cemeteries. In the "islamic" cemetery in our area, all of the graves face mecca in accordance with muslim belief. Also, in communities where there are larger muslim populations, cemeteries have dedicated entire gardens within the cemetery to muslim burials with the graves facing mecca in accordance with muslim beliefs. As a result, we have no problems here. It's all about choice and the opportunity to make the choice.
Understanding comes hand in hand with tolerance. This can only happen when both sides of the issue mutually respect and tolerate the other. Notice I didn't say agree with the other. Agreeing with someone elses views, rites and beliefs is not necessary to respecting and tolerating those beliefs.

All I can add is that I don't believe christians have specific beliefs about which way the headstone faces. If I'm correct about that, then I'd say if there's one group who has such a requirement and the other doesn't, go with the group that has the requirement.

I'm in the US and many cemetaries now require that headstones be flat to the ground and facing upward. It takes away that entire arguement. It's not really a big deal to me. My God can see me in any direction.
