I am looking to fly to LA arond Christmas and even paid someone on e-bay for 'special' information, secret web sites. Needless to say, the prices were the same. Can you wait on a reserve list or something? What really is the cheapest way to fly if you are flexible with dates and times?

I usually use:

www.bookingbuddy.com

They list every site, and then some.

I always go to Yahoo, plug in my trip, look at the fares they list. I then go to the airline web page and see if they can beat the price and yes, they usually do.

airfare.com is a good source to research. You can also save time and money by flying into hub airports, like John Wayne, or Ontario, california. I find that Continental and Ted offer some of the cheapest fares around. Sometimes American offers good fares.

Take your time, research it and book about three weeks in advance. I travel sometimes three or four times a month, and always book 3 weeks out. That gets me the best deals. Any further out and you may not get the best deal.

You REALLY have to check around, as there is NOT one source that will always offer the cheapest options. Booking Buddy, as someone else mentioned, is good, and it searches about 40 sources with just one input of cities and dates, however it does not check EVERY source. In my opinion (searching fares daily for the past 10 years), you need to check sources that construct airfares using different technologies. What that means is with Booking Buddy, tell it to check Sidestep, Pricegrabber, Mobissimo, and Kayak. Then run ITA Software (link below). Once you see the itinerary you want, go direct to that airline's website to book; sometimes it is even cheaper direct from the airline.

My advice would be different if you need to travel international.

Hello:

Check out http://www.grab2travel.com
Go to Flights section.

Also try to do SmartSearch, which will give you recommendation and click on individual buttons to perform search to compare rates. I like that place... You dont have to go to individual sites and type the same information again and again.. here once you enter you are done to compare....

Southwest Airlines doesn't list their flights on websites like Orbitz and Travelocity. You have to go to their website. Check their prices, they usually are the lowest. Not always, but usually.

Depends what dates. You'll get a same price ticket to Ontario International. LAX traffic sucks!
