Probably more people than you think. Don't allow anyone to tell you to pick one thing and stay with it. That's a lot of bunk. I took that advice and worked at something for twenty years, and even though I was successful at it, I wasn't happy in my work. I'm now on my third career, and I've been successful in all of them, and I may even have a fourth and a fifth. Do what you enjoy. Talk to a career counselor at a community college(or any college),and take the tests which are designed to help you decide what you are best at, and what you would enjoy the most. They don't always match. Use the results of the tests and your discussion with the career counselor as a guide. As you go along in life, you may find that your interests change. And, possibly, so might your work interests. It doesn't matter what others think, your professional and personal happiness is all that matters. Remember, you should look forward to going to work everyday. If you do, then you will know you have the right vocation.
I think the tests people took were called COPS. BTW, my advice to you is extended to everyone within the sound of my keyboard. And it matters not what your age is.

I am sure it has more to do with accepting what they have to do in life. Life is all about choices, and the playing of the cards dealt to you.. Some are better players and some are just luckier.... I guess I wanted to be a writer or an english lit major, maybe teach or somthing like that.. But, I made some bad choices.. But... Now it seemesa every thing worked out better than I have ever planed... I am a disabled Union Electrician, that is now a married stay at home Mr. Mom type.. And very happy.. Now aam I happy because I accepted what I have, or is it some kind of safty mechinisim of the brain that makes me think I am happy to keep from jumping off a cliff. Imagine being stuck working in a slaughter house 10 hours a day or being sold into slavery as 25 million people world wide still are today... I don't think it matters what we decide to do.. I think we end up doing what we aRE SUPPOSED TO DO.. If we are not doing what we are supposed to do, then we are not happy and somthing is wrong.. Sorry for building a watch when you only asked the time.

it's this generation.. i don't know if it's a push away from our parents or if it's media or what.. but this generation is having a terrible time picking what it wants to do... i have enough hours in college to have a double major and my masters but I'm still in undergrad because I've switched majors 5 times.. and there are many people who have taken more, or who have waited several years to start college just because they had no clue what they wanted to do... but you know what? in today's world 30 is the new 20.. i don't think it's a bad thing for some people to take their time deciding.. don't worry, you'll find what you want to do eventually.. and it's better to take it slow than to end up doing something you hate for the rest of your life.. also remember this.. unless you are in a specific field.. you can do pretty much anything with any college degree.. people just want to see that you can finish, not what it was in.

Many people do. And, it changes as your needs change. Part of the problem is that economic needs sometimes don't match up with desires. For example, most actors don't have acting work.

Another problem is that there are hundreds of kinds of jobs to sift through. For this, there are books listing jobs and starting salaries either in your library or your bookstore.

A last problem is that working conditions are often lousy leading one to believe that there really isn't any job that they'd like to do.

I have and still do - even at 40 and with a well paying professional career - note that I don't say I love it. Life is a series of choices and trade offs. There are things that I would love doing, but pay less (change my lifestyle for less quantity, but more time and quality).

It took me till I was 24 to find out what I wanted. Don't worry, it will come to you. Don't rush it. Be a janitor for awhile.
