Well an effective way to smack is the anticipation of being smacked . It is wrong when done frequently but moderately is the best way to go so that kids will know what's coming the next time they do something bad.

I think smacking them in the face is wrong. That is belittling them.
I believe that a smack on the bottom or on the fatty part of the legs and on the hand is OK.
I am not a believer of beating your kids but they will remember a smack on the behind or on the legs because it is 1. embarrassing and 2 it hurts their feelings. I remember when my mother spanked me it never hurt i just was so upset about it cause it hurt my feelings. I remember that more than being grounded and i was less likely to do that again.

I think if you smack your child on the butt or hand it is not wrong. If you start smacking your child in the face or something like that, that is just wrong. Kids will resent you for that.

It's not a suitable or effective way of teaching a child right from wrong. Using violence in answer to a problem, especially where children are concerned, just doesn't work. Adults, who are after all meant to be responsible and mature people, shouldn't expose children to any form of brutality. Young people are the voice of tomorrow and they shouldn't be taught that violence is acceptable. The way forward is to talk. Words are much more powerful, effective and meaningful than violence.

It's wrong and not to mention illegal. When the child grows up it'll have all these bad memories in its head that will follow him and he won't develop normally.... There are other ways to convince a child not to do a bad thing. Try distracting his/her attention with another activity like games, reading going out...

Kids only know what they are taught I think you should of course talk to them first explain to them what they are doing wrong and then and if they keep doing it punishment is necessary if not how will they ever know what is right and what is wrong

ummm....yes! clearly you must agree or you wouldn't be asking this question.
there's nothing wrong with spanking kids occasionally, but smacking them is just cruel and degrading. if you actually do this, your kids should be taken away from you.
