Allowing individuals to congregate in certain areas or districts, ie china town, etc. allows people of the same background to more closely comtrol their cuture. By enforcing multicultures living together and breaking up these communities does this benefit each culture or weaken them to the point that there is only 1 blended culture and is that the multi cutlural state our governments aim for?
(Just to clarify I am all for freedom of international movement and people accepting the basics of the coutry the adopt, namely the language, but not being forced to adapt their religion or historic traditons)

This is a generic question although I base it on my experiences as a UK resident in an area of great ethic diversity (about 160 different languages are spoken in our area). I do not wish to confuse the issue here, i am not asking should people be allowed to be free or if cultures should mix, it is more a question about how our govenrments try to 'encourage' mixed communities.
