He was asking for forgiveness for those who crucified Him

John3:16"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17God did not send his Son into the world to condemn it, but to save it.

18"There is no judgment awaiting those who trust him. But those who do not trust him have already been judged for not believing in the only Son of God. 19Their judgment is based on this fact: The light from heaven came into the world, but they loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. 20They hate the light because they want to sin in the darkness. They stay away from the light for fear their sins will be exposed and they will be punished. 21But those who do what is right come to the light gladly, so everyone can see that they are doing what God wants."

Yes he did he said ::: Father forgive them they know not what they do. He knew they did this out of ignorance, for if they truly knew he was the Son of GOD they would never have killed him,,, but the scriptures HAD to be fulfilled.. HE said not one dot or tittle of the scriptures would gone undone. And it was told a long time ago by the Prophets that he would come and what MUST happen to him. He knew exactly what he would have to suffer for all mankind. so yes he did ask the Father to forgive them, and me too.

how true. Christians generally believe in THE DEITY THE FATHER, JESUS CHRIST THE SON OF GOD and THE HOLY GHOST -- HOLY SPIRIT. JESUS was sent by GOD to allow mankind a Path to Return to GOD. JESUS asked HIS FATHER GOD to forgive those who crucified HIM as otherwise GOD THE FATHER might have loosed a terrible vengeance upon those who harmed HIS SON. therefore without JESUS asking HIS FATHER to forgive those who sinned against HIM all would have been lost.

I've always thought this was a very admirable attitude for Jesus to take. I think justice is preferable to forgiveness, but sometimes forgiveness is the greater justice.

I know it.

It is my opinion that Jesus was asking for forgiveness not only for those directly involved in the crucifiction but also for forgiveness for ALL who would ultimately realize that it was their own sin nature that put Him on the cross.

Jesus is my LORD and Savior. He died for me.
Did He die for you? I sure hope so.

They say that he also said. let he who is without sin cast the first stone, keep in mind, he didn't even cast it,
He also said my father in heaven, why has though forsaken me?
He sais to pray the our father to speak with him and that no one could come to his father except through him.
So what is your point?

I counter with "How many know that the Bible was written by people and has no actual claim to veracity?"
