I too believe truth can be found in searching through all religions, beliefs and philosophies. It has been a life long quest for me. Then our own 'belief' must be constructed. In this process we move toward enlightenment. Sometimes we must repeat many lives on Earth to learn everything we need to know.

All of the beliefs contain an element of truth. Every last one.

1) You must shed all loyalties attained through any establishment and open your mind up as you begin your quest for the truth.

2)You must look at life through the eyes of an infant. Everything is new and everything is worth investigating.

3)Research the history. But in order to really see truth for what it is you have to look at everything that was happening at the time. For instance: Muhammed does not speak of Jihad until he is run out of Mecca, the apocolyptic books of the Bible happen during times of great suffering under occupation, likewise Jesus does not appear until the Roman Republic is changed by octavius into the Roman Empire.

4) You must search inside each religon and discount the ones based on hypocracy. If the canon says on thing yet another is practiced find out why? Also find out the origins of religon by starting from the begin ie: Egypt, Mesopotamia, China, and perhaps early Greece.

5) Confirm the validity of the sources. You must have at least two separate sources to confirm something as fact. The Jews claim slavery under Egypt, yet there are no egyptian records to sustain that claim, Solomon was Mr. International tradesman to the world, yet is only mentioned in the Bible (there are no records of him in Mesopotamian or Egyptian texts)

6) Finally if religion is what you look for then except the stories a fables and focus on the philosophies. If religion is not for you but you are conviced in a "god" understand that it is not the God anyone religion worships. If there is no god then understand that it is the desicions one makes that determine cause and effect throughout your life. No demons or divine intervention but determination and a little bit of luck.

Be prepared to be ridiculed by friends and family. You are breaking from tradition and tradition is all most people have because of fear of the unknown (this is why heaven was created) . But be strong in what you know and never stop learning so that you are never caught short. A new Age of Enlightenment seems to be at hand as all the institutions of old are beginning to let the rational ones amongest us down.

Good Luck

Religions were given by God but, unfortunately, were written down by man. if you want true enlightenment try to look not to ancient religions but instead look with yourself. Sit quietly in a dark room and ask God to enlighten you. Ask a single question and wait for the answer. Try asking a complicated question that you do not know the answer too and watch as God leads you through all the thinking processes right to the only possible answer. You might even have a Epiphany. That is a sudden spectacular vision or answer to the question you have asked. You will say of course! its perfect! And you will know that God is with you. Peace.

I don't believe this exists, at least as far as some cosmic connection. Just like the xian "salvation" moment and other religious phenomena, I believe that all of these can be duplicated by stimulus in the brain.

I think some people have the ability and/or desire to study ideas, kind of move beyond those original ideas, and look at the world in a fairly original way. 99% of the people will not understand this vision no matter what.

There seem to be some consistencies around this kind of experience: initial study, moral or spiritual crisis, heavy reflection, and "enlightenment". But I think very few people can do this.

Truly enlightened? I think it can be done in this lifetime, but I'm not sure I would want to live with the consequences. Would I be able to suffer through newspapers and news programs? Would all my friends fall by the wayside because I could no longer endure their narrow-mindedness? I'm not being judgmental -- I'm just saying that if one were enlightened, all petty stuff would become an irritant like a fly buzzing around your head.

Each of us is born with the truth deeply ingrained in our souls,to become enlightened we must surrender ourselves to God and form a personal relationship with him, always keep yourself open and indeed realize that their can only be one truth which means most belief systems are wrong.Their is nothing wrong with studying religions and belief systems but you wont get very far, tapping into your own spiritual subconscious is the start! From our cell conception the truth is part of our foundation,we are born with a desire for answers,we are born to seek out God.Truth is relative instead focus on the truth which God reveals to your own heart.Man made theories will not take you far on your spiritual quest, they are just distractions.

Are you a member of the Ba'hai faith? they believe just that. I also believe all religions hold truth, but some have had their message twisted in order to appease the public. I am Buddhist, so I believe that we become enlightened by achieveing Nirvana.

Only the Messenger of God for our time can tell exactly what were the previous Revelations in relation to His.

One cannot become "truly enlightend" while in this life. Maybe in death you may gain the wisdom of the ages, or start a new path on the road to enlightenment
