'Alien' doesn't mean 'martian', it means someone that's not a tourist, not on asylum , not on a work visa, not an immigrant, someone that basically just decided to show up, and sneak under the wire. 'Illegal alien' is kind of a misnomer, because being an alien IS illegal, but adding the word in front of it kind of clarifies and emphasizes the point. They tried to slide 'undocumented workers' and 'undocumented immigrants' by, but it just didn't fly with most people.Nor should it, It's mealy-mouthed doubletalk being pushed by people with a political agenda they're not really being very forthright about.

You either have laws, or you don't. If you don't have law enforcement behind the laws that you do have, they may as well not exist either.

I think instead of going for the 'pity vote' on illegal immigration, that there should be structured foreign aid programs, in recognition of the fact that there are some desperately hopeless countries in this world whose citizens are far worse off than most of us can even really conceptualize. But, such aid should be highly structured, and a joint global project. Global poverty is an international problem, thus an international solution is called for, a solution that has both merit and reason behind it.

I think the world would benefit by having a united global aid function, one that specifically helps lay down the building blocks for success, rather than just uncontrolled giveaways that end up putting the money in the hands of an unscrupulous few.
Building schools in other countries is a great paving-stone on the road to success in foreign aid, hospitals too, but mainly schools, because people aren't stupid, often the problem is nothing less than sheer ignorance. Get people in school, teach them about farming, economics, public health, birth control/population management, construction, that kind of thing, and a lot of the problems will start to solve themselves.

But, for such things to succeed, they have to be backed by many countries, working together. Substituting negligent enforcement for proactive problem solving just isn't the right answer, hence the need to properly enforce borders, and have good oversight over immigration, which includes preventing illegal immigration in the first place, deportation, employer sanctions, public awareness, etc.

We live in a changed world, from 100 years ago, even just 20 years ago. The world now counts 6.6 billion inhabitants. How many people do you think could fit, for example, in Spain, and still have everyone eating dinner as peaceful neighbors? Probably not 6 billion, probably not 1 billion. Everything's about balance,
you bring say, 100 million people into the United States in 50 years' time, you'll have A Problem.

Because the term alien states you were born in a foreign country. And is used when one is here illegally. As far as undocumented workers, that is a crock of crap. In my job I see alot of illegals. Not ONE of them works. So how can they be called undocumented workers? If you do not like the term illegal alien then get in touch with all of those who have entered this wonderful REPUBLIC (not democracy) and have them go through the proper channels to become United States Residents.
All 8 of my great grandparents entered the United States legally, 7 from Ireland and 1 from Scotland. Upon arrival they found WORK! (I know it is a dirty 4 letter word to a vast majority of those who are here illegally.)

Illegal aliens is the correct term to describe people who have entered this country unlawfully. Anybody who is paid "under the table" and has no tax and other documentation is an "undocumented worker", e.g. an American citizen can well be an undocumented worker ... we have to make the distinction between who is in this country legally and who is here illegally ... I suppose we could call them "undocumented illegal aliens" ...:)

actually the term alien capacity which you have entered an area devoid of excellent dealing with the customs for this reason, unlawful get entry to. however the component is to call it what it fairly is. Its not that we as human beings do not think of foreigners are not human. We already understand that we are all human. however the term "alien" comes from the actuality that foreigners come to our united states devoid of dealing with the legal technique. once you positioned foot on our soil or any united states's soil for that rely, and you attempt to stay in that united states devoid of being a legal citizen then you certainly at the instant are not seen, a citizen. you're then categorised a foreigner or for this reason an alien. Why? considering the indisputable fact that classification is merely right to describe people who come here and experience they are in a position to stay devoid of being a citizen. Now usa isn't suitable, yet there are regulations to be accompanied. in case you do not save on with it then you certainly would be punished or made to adapt in some way. call it what you want, yet I call it governance. each and every united states has a manner of doing issues, and that's how usa is.

as the others have suggested please look up the definition of the word alien. What's wrong with undocumented workers you ask? The better question would be what's not wrong. Illegals are just that ILLEGAL! Why should they have any rights? Why should American tax payers spend their tax dollars on giving a bunch of illegals a better life when their own people are suffering?

No, it's actually very accurate. Alien simply means you are not from around here. And without the proper papers, it is (believe it or not) illegal.
The U.S. is actually pretty leinient, with aliens. Try to sneak across a Middle Eastern country's border and see if you get a free hot meal and a ride back home.
If you dont want to participate in our system then stay out!
Not trying to mean, but really.

Because 'alien' is synonymous with foreign or someone who is not native.

For example, I was born in a city so i'd be alien to a forest enviroment.

Political correctness is a virus on language and communication.

Political Correctness is ridiculous!

Tell it like it is, don't sugar coat it.

Illegal Alien is the legal term for them.

Martians have nothing to do with it.

Wait until your country is flooded with 'undocumented' people demanding rights and priveleges that your people don't have and you won't think it's so ridiculous. Alien just means foreign, and, well, umm.....I'm not sure if you would understand the term illegal even if I explained it to you.
