Ok, you need to read up on the brain development and stages of a child through the years.
Are you trying to impose your will, or actually encourage?
What does that mean?
If they do not accept it, then leave it alone. treat these kids with respect, even though you might think they do not deserve it,(which would really be the wrong answer) if someone offered you advice, and you appreciate it, but do not agree, then how would you feel if that person always gets frustrated with you?? You, along with EVERY human, big or small, has a right to your feelings and opinions. Never make the mistake that kids "don't know what they want". They do. The only thing you need to be concerned with is making sure they are fed, sheltered, and safe. After that, let them BE them.

A small amount of pocket money helps. If you assign a task a certain amount of money, pay it out to the child on completion of said task.

Let their friends do the encouraging or have someone else step in. They know you love them, they need to hear it from someone else.
