I found a bag in the restroom at the mall. Later in the week I took the bag to the store it was from and tried to exchange the clothes for something in my size. I was arrested for that. I don't remember much about it other than the judge looking at it like.. finders keepers type of thing. Anyway, wanted to get information from that. Where can I find it? It happened in IL

I don't remember where I went to court for it. I remember what town I was arrested in, but that's it. The town is in Cook County.

Under Freedom of Information you may send a letter to the police department that effected the arrest. You'd send this to their Records Division. In the letter you'll state your name, date of birth and the date (or approximate) of your arrest and the charge. They can research this although the record may have been purged under normal retention schedules usually set by the state.
In any event, if the report still exists you would be able to obtain a copy for a small fee. Bear in mind that if the case was dismissed or nolled then the report may be sealed or destroyed.
If you contact the clerk of the court where you were arraigned and they will still have the results of your arrest on file. Again, if the case was dismissed or nolled you may not have anything on file or they may deny the record under FOI. Although I do believe there is a ruling that the subect of the nolle/dismissal (meaning you) can get a copy. No one else can though.

Good luck

If you have a good memory for dates and the court you went to, you should be able to find it based on the date, your last name, and what you were there for. You will have to contact the county in which you were arrested and speak with the criminal court clerks office. I am sure you will find that they have sent it to microfiche or a dead records office. Ideally if you had a case number that is best, but last name, birthdate and approximate date should be enough. Good luck!

It sounds like you werent convicted. I assume there is a court in the County where minor crimes are held- go to the clerks office and ask them for help. It's almost 20 years, if it hasn't caused a problerm yet, why is it so important.

The records of it should be available to you at the courthouse in the city you were arrested in.
