NO! My children does not go outside at home in those temperatures, no way.My kids don't go outside unless it's at least 40 degrees or higher, and then it's not on a dreary day.

LunaMedea.

Here in Crawford County, Ohio, Bucyrus City Schools is where I'm talking about. They take the kids outside for recess 2-3 times a day here. No they said that if a parent doesn't want this happening to they're child, to HIRE a babysitter to watch them at school during these times!!! Seriously, I have a letter from the superintendent to prove it! He's a moron, and the children's well-being doesn't matter here. They say they don't have the facilities to have indoor recess time!

Well i see your from Ohio, I have family in Ohio and have been there many times. It gets super cold there! I don't understand why they would take them outside when its that cold. Its too cold to do anything, even talk!...lol. I wouldn't want my daughter standing outside for 30 minutes in almost freezing weather!

I WENt to a boarding school in England. The first 2 years, the boys wear shorts, as part of the school uniform. On numerous occassions I Played field hockey in below freezing conditions, in shorts. After I left school, I used to ride a motorbike to work in below freezing conditons - think about the wind chill for 25F at 80mph.

Human beings, including children, are NOT frail. They can manage a bit of cold. But the children just need to be getting warm again afterwards & be generally healthy - so any kid at school with a cold or something - should be able to stay inside & keep warm.

I grew up on a farm & was out across the fields somewhere with my friends from a very early age. Wasn't a good year if one of us didn't fall into a brook in the middle of Winter.

I'm curious, what school has recess several times a day?

Once a day is fine (any school I have ever known or attended only has one recess in a day) as long as they are dressed properly. If they are not dressed for warmth, then they shouldn't be allowed out.

In the school district I live in (and my family works in) as long as it's not really bad weather (high winds, snowing, raining, etc) children are allowed outside. It gives them a break from a long day inside a stuffy building. I don't know about your school district, but in ours if a parent has a concern about the child being outside it can be easily to have their child stay inside.

They always think a bit of fresh air is good for them and since we live in Indiana we do get some pretty bad winters here, and our kids always go outside during the winter for recess, IF they are bundled properly and only then for a few minutes.

You let them play outside at home during the winter don't you? I let mine so there is no difference in them going out for recess.

I think it would be ok for about 5 -7 minutes, and as long as the children are properly dressed, but not several times a day. I think at that temperature they should walk out and walk in just to get a whisk of the air, and return to playing the classroom.

As long as the children are properly attired for the weather, there's absolutely nothing wrong with letting them play for short periods of time. They need the activity, they need the fresh air & it's good for them. Taking them out like that actually cuts down on germs & illnesses too - if you close them up in a classroom all day long, all they will do is pass colds & bugs back & forth. It's wrong to keep children in all day - the inactivity isn't good for them & America wonders why we have an obesity epidemic? Keep them inside all of the time & you're raising hot-house flowers who can't withstand temperature changes. Just let them be kids - for heavens' sake!! - nothing wrong with letting them play in the snow, running around inhaling good clean fresh air! I am willing to bet all of us did it & nothings' wrong with us! Don't overly pamper kids - it's not good for them.

a bigger question is why are they having so much "recess" time; in my state, the school day does not allow for recess time; the students have physical education time (planned games, aerobics movement ed, etc) for a certain number of minutes per week; except for lunch the entire school day is spend in instructional activities!

i could write out those incidents and deliver a replica to the instructor, crucial, and the college board, or whoever the crucial must be in charge to. you are able to desire to document a suitable criticism and describe how those are intense incidents that have not been good dealt with. today of cracking down on bullying, faculties could desire to take each and every undertaking heavily and the incontrovertible fact that a baby is afraid to apply the washroom isn't adequate for them to accomplish that is ridiculous. the ladies folk interior the place of work could desire to no less than obtain a suitable warning for putting a baby's protection and wellness in threat. And specific, if there is yet another college interior the section i could heavily evaluate switching to it.

I get very upset when that happens. My son has winter asthma and the teachers still let him play outside in the snow. I wonder why they do that?
