"Because if one cannot believe what is written in the bible then it has no purpose or meaning."
So, if you are already doubt what the Bible says, don't believe in it, think it is fictional, etc.etc. then why can't you just let it be at that??? You don't believe, we do. What is the point of asking questions here about something you believe to be fake?? Not to mention, ask questions that really have no profound effect on people's lives now??? Even when answered honestly, you still don't believe because you already "know" it's not true. So is the point of all this to play "devils advocate"? If we cannot prove our stance to you, what makes you think you can prove your stance to us?????

J.P. I understand where you are coming from. If someone is trully interested in just learning about Christianity then hey, I'm all for answering a question for the sake of learning about another religion or culture. But, I do have a problem with people asking retarded questions about someone's beliefs just to stir up trouble and emotions. Like I said this is a spin off question from my previous question where someone had asked, "did Adam and Eve sleep with their children?" I mean c'mon. Why does this really matter?? Unless someone has a sick twisted perverted mind. A question like this really does not prove nor disprove that the Bible is true and accurate.

I think that people persist with the questions because there's still some lingering uncertainty about it all, and it just won't leave them alone. Their way of seeking answers, however, is part of the problem. Some just enjoy the back and forth of debate for its own sake. Yet another group is completely misinformed and not in it for any sort of enlightment or earnest answer-seeking. I think that when you come into a situation with a closed stance, not seeking to understand or be understood, it's hardly a surprise that things break down. The debates that people engage in around these issues aren't usually fruitful, nor a good foundation for exchange of ideas. Questions are being asked with the "correct" answer already in mind. People wish to confirm their own way of thinking rather than learn about new ways in which to view things. Perhaps there should be less emphasis on proving who's more - or less - right, and more on sharing the impact that faith has had on one's life. You can't argue with someone's personal account, and I believe that's the sort of thing that really prompts another person to want to learn more in the end.

How do you know that the questions don't have a profound effect on people? You really can only speak for yourself on that. And, personally, I enjoy some of the challenges that are presented here and ignore most of the other stuff.
Personally, I am not trying to Prove anything. Maybe that is where the problem lies? Too many people trying to prove something to other people they claim they don't care about, or don't care what they think.
And a person can believe certain things about the Bible. I'm sure you won't find too many people who disagree with "Do not commit murder". Or "Do not steal". Where the big argument comes in is when people push the idea that a man is god and sacrificed himself to his creation in order to keep his own wrath from pouring out over everyone. That, and it seems soooo many people claim these religious ideas are important, yet very few actually research these ideas. I guess people just like to sound important, as if quoting a book means you have the ear of God and are speaking for him.

Another person's Answer, one I presume you think should not have been presented, obviously inspired you to ask another question of people you think shouldn't respond.
Other's questions may have no 'profound effect' on people's lives; it must have had some effect on you or you wouldn't be asking another question of them! You might ask the same question of those who have quoted, mis-quoted , cut and pasted', opinionated paragraph after paragraph of the Bible and their beliefs to others. Why, to simply re-enforce their own belief ? In hope of converting others, or just wanting everyone to agree with them? If you simply want others to agree with you then you should be on a site where that is acceptable, but don't expect it here , or don't ask. That's why you can pick the best answer!
Most people only chose people who agree with them anyway, even if the Answer is well presented or thought provoking. Or they post a question and it's so unimportant they don't bother to come back and check Answers, they just wanted to state an opinion. Now , I've made a point!

Sounds like that answerer meant to offend, that's all. They just wanted to provoke you.
My response to that answer would be:
Even if a person does not believe the Bible to be historically true, a person can derive meaning from it if they interpret it allegorically or metaphysically.
The moral foundation of Western Civilization is inbedded in it. The Psalms, The Sermon on the Mount, The Parables et all will give the reader great comfort & value. So you see the Bible can be used as a moral guide even if you choose to reject that it was Divinely Inspired Writing.
Blessings!

Why is it that you can't take your own advice ? In the first sentence of your statement, you ask the question, " If you don't believe what the bible says why can't you just let it go at that "?
Can't that be reversed ? " If you do believe what the bible says, can't you just let it go at that "? You seem to think that it's okay for biblers to bash non-believers, but not the other way around.
As for me, I'm not trying to prove anything to anybody. It's none of my business what you believe. But when anyone bashes me for my beliefs, or lack of, then I feel I must answer.
Therefore, if you want this bible thing to stop, begin with yourself. It's hard to criticize silence.

I think some of us "believers" have hopes that someone will read questions and answers pertaining to belief in God and possibly have it touch them in some way that will spark some interest in believing. That was one of my original intentions when answering questions about religion here when I first started. NOW though, I see the intentions of the questions are not for knowledge, but to stir up trouble. Maybe still though someone might still be reading who has a genuine interest...
Truly and honestly, if you don't have faith, no one can put it in ya'. AND if you have it, no one can take it away.
Very well said by the way my friend!!!

there is a strong difference between discussion and argument. discussion is when people get together to exchange both similar and opposite points of view in which they exchange their wisdom and knowledge with each other to enhance their quest for more of each. argument is when people take a stand and in a confrontational manner try to bully others into believing they are right and the other person is wrong without having the respect to keep an open mind about the other persons viewpoint. this leads to hard feelings and resentment rather than an attainment of more knowledge and wisdom.

Because it's other readers who are more gullible keep pushing it. They are even using the Bible to fuel their wars against those who are using the Quran to fuel theirs. The Bible may be a fiction, but it is being used as a weapon to get more people to blindly follow their leaders and die for them.
So, it is in our best interest, and the best interest of the world, if we help educate you on the fact of the Bible's fiction.
As far as proving our stance with you, we're doing a fair job of it. In the US, "NO RELIGION" is the fastest growing religious sector, according to the ARIS study. However, the 7.5% percent who are Christian Evangelical Dominionists have an inordinate control over this country and are attempting to make it a theocracy. They don't realize that this will hurt them as much as it hurts the rest of us.

Each side believes their stance to be the correct one. We each believe that if we show the other side enough "logic" and "facts" that we'll change their minds. This is actually true in some cases, but most of the time people will just argue back and forth.

We all know that Born Again believers are considered children of God (John 1:12). But many Christians forget that the unsaved are children of Satan (John 8:44). Just as the Holy Spirit indwells us and guides us to do good things, Satan indwells and controls those who are his children; this is different than demon possession.
Unbelievers who come here to mock and harass us are being used by their father to discourage us. Remember, Satan was a liar from the beginning, even in the Garden of Eden. He is also the "accuser of the brethren," and enjoys slinging false accusations against us (Rev. 12:10). He will do anything and use anyone to trample what belongs to God ... but we will not let him do it, will we?
Be strong and simply ignore these people. Pray for them. Do not repay evil for evil, or Satan has won.
Peace.
