Yes, I know that they can be the same names as ANY baby, but I was just wondering about ones that might have some cultural flavor.

My friend is white Scottish and his wife is Afro-Carribbean. Their eldest daughter is called Aurelia. It means "golden" and she is! I think it's a lovely name.

Name the baby whatever you want. However, keep in mind that people with more normal sounding names have an easier time getting a job.

"This matters because studies of resumes have found that people with black-sounding names are less likely to get callbacks." from a 20/20 ABC News Story, but I have heard this elsewhere too.

Congrats on your new baby. Below is some more information related to the above story.

Top 20 Whitest & Blackest Sounding Names
Sept. 21, 2006 — Studies of resumes have found that people with black-sounding names are less likely to get callbacks.

"20/20" put 22 pairs of names to the test, posting identical resumes except for the names at the top.

The resumes with the white-sounding names were actually downloaded 17 percent more often by job recruiters than the resumes with black-sounding names.

What are some of those names? Here's a list from the book "Freakonomics," by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner, showing the top 20 whitest- and blackest-sounding girl and boy names.

Careful - you don't want to saddle the child with a name that will have everyone ever afterwards asking how it's spelled and then what it means ... so if you wanted a plain name that nonethelss acknowledged both inheritances, you might go for Nelson for a boy. Nelson Mandela finally married the woman he loves - Graca Michel (the Graca should have a cedilla - that's the little French squiggle - underneath) but you could try Graca for a girl.

If you're less bothered about the spelling/meaning problem, my honorary African stepson is named Larato, which I'm told means Love. (The middle 'a' is long - rhymes with tomato in the British pronunciation).

Blessings on the babe.

What does a name have to do with their race? Be a lil more creative, stray from the norm.
