I am a protestant but I don't agree with that. Catholic is a christian denomenation whether they are christians or not depends on the individual just like the protestants. I disagree with many things the Catholic church beleives but I also disagree with things that other protestants beleive. Those that say Catholics are non-Christian are stereotyping and have no real knowledge of the Bible or the church.
Good example, the Bible gives no evidence of Peter ever being in Rome actually it suggest that he never was there. Also Peter was married, then church doctrine later dictates that the Pope may not be married. I geuss they decided Peter was not a good example after all. Paul would have been a better choice to claim as the first Pope.

I am a protestant and I don't believe they are non-Christians.
Most of us don't know very much about your religion, we have heard that you pray through saints and the virgin Mary, we think if that is true it's wrong. The Bible says the only way to the father is through the Son. The Bible also says their is no other intercessor between you and God other than Jesus.
I don't really know that much about your Church or your faith so I don't Judge you. I know in the past that the Roman Catholic Church attacked and Killed protestants, that is well documented, I am sure the Protestants did the same to the Catholics when they came into power.
I don't hold what people did in the 14th and 15th centuries against you. I hope you won't hold what others think against me. I do not think the pope is able to forgive sins and don't know that that is what he says he does, I don't think prest or any other man is able to forgive sins.
I am sure we have differences but weather you are a Christian or not is between you and God. In days of old I would have been charged with herisy for what I have just said and for what I am about to say.
The only way to be forgiven is to accept the free gift of salvation from Jesus Christ. The sacriment is in memory of Christ body and blood but does not become Christ real body or blood. The pope (who I think is a good man) is not infallable.
God Bless.
Please don't have me burned at the stake.
Note: Christians have enough enimies without fighting each other.

well I used to go to a protestant church as well as being involved in a many faiths organization while in high school.
The pastor at the church said that if catholics weren't born again then they where going to "the hot place". I believed that the pastor was crazy that being one of the reasons why I don't really believe in organized religion. The pastors name was MkNight.
Many of the catholics or other religions people seemed fine to me. O the good wrevern would say "some of my best friends are catholics". Which holds about as much water in meaning the oposite as me calling him the good wrevern. But from an outside perspective aren't christians non catholics.

First, of all I would like to say that I am Catholic. The reason that Protestants and most other religions don't like Catholics is because we believe in the Saints. They believe that we put other people above or equal to God and that is wrong in the eyes of Christians. Some even go as far as saying that we worship statues you know a form of idolatry because some catholic Churches have big statues of Saints. That is what I have found most often when I talk to people who have other faiths.

Im not protestant But i do believe that the catholic church is a false doctrine. The main reason is that the fundamentals of the church are against biblical principles. The very existence of the pope and the catholicism worship of him is blasphemy. The catholic church twisted scripture to somehow use peter as the first pope when in all actuality Peter had nothing to do with the catholic church. the first pope of the catholic church was in 607 AD (Boniface III)The catholic church is a legalistic organization that falls on rules, guidelines, and sacraments rather than just the saving grace of Jesus Christ. here are a few minor examples of my point:
Men are called father and are the go between between their parishoners and God, this is wrong. Mathhew 23:9 tells us that no man shall be called father in this spiritual sense on earth, matthew 18:20 tells us that god is there in the midst of his children there is no need for a priest to take my prayers and confessions to him for me.see below referenced scripture.
Matthew 23:9
And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
Matthew 18:20
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
Catholics issue prayers for the dead when their souls are already wher they will be for eternity, the only hope for salvation is on this side of the grave.
catholics pray to mary and saints ....blasphemy
they baptize infants and give them false sense of secuirty thinking that sacraments will earn them a spot in heaven. IE A mobster that is baptized thinks he will go heaven just because of that.
you can go on and on answering this but the just of the matter is that catholic doctrine contradicts the bible and therefore that makes it a false doctrine.

I am a Protestant (of the ELCA Lutheran variety): I've never heard that Catholics aren't Christians, and I've lived all over the US. The first time I heard that was here, on Yahoo Answers.
Edited to add: No, Catholics do not believe that Jesus is dead - they believe he was resurrected too:
"The mystery of Christ's resurrection is a real event, with manifestations that were historically verified." (Catechism, 639)
Here is a link that shows what some of the different faiths believe: http://www.religionfacts.com/christianity/charts/denominations_beliefs.htm

PLEASE don't classify all Protestants into this belief. I am considered a Protestant but I always thought Catholics were Christians. the only difference is the Rituals and Ceremonies which are performed among the various Churches of any denomination. I enjoy Catholic Church Services and find these services are as inspiring as any other Church Service I have attended. It is not the Rituals and Ceremonies which are as important as to WHOM we are honoring, adoring and worshiping.

A lot of good answers here already but in addition I think you should consider a few more things:
Catholics are taught from a "catechism", written by the Catholic church . . . . .Protestants are taught from the Bible . . . .God's Word only
The symbol of the Catholic Church is a "crucifix" . . . . . . . focusing on Christ's death. . . . . . The symbol of Protestant churches is an "empty cross" . . . focusing on Christ's Resurrection
Protestant churches teach "Christianity" . . . . . The Catholic Church teaches "Catholicism" and, sadly, there is a big difference, as many of the answers above have shown.

I'm not a Protestant, just a Christian.
The Catholic Church goes against God's Word in many ways, and one is how they refuse to get rid of pedophile priests, but simply trandfer them to different places where they are free to molest even more innocent children.
WWJD?
Jesus would remove those pedophiles from being in a position to harm the children.
The Catholic Church protects them.
And by the way, the Catholic Church claims that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was without sin. God's Word clearly states that ALL have sinned.

I am a believer in God and His Son Jesus, Catholicism is not a Bible believing church. Catholicism do not spend time teaching that you can pray to saints and they have statues through out their churches. They have also added books to their bibles that were just written by man and not inspired by God. They say you can confess your sins to a priest and be forgiven, where I only confess my sins to God and I know I am forgiven because Jesus died on the cross for my sins and was resurrected three days later. I was born and raised a catholic and went to a catholic grade school for 8 years. I left the catholic church because of their false teachings.
