suggestion: Be put to sleep. Have them put a stitch or two after extraction to minimize bleeding.

I'm sure you are reading about how painful it was and its true but the benefit of having your wisdom teeth out at 21 is that you will never have to go thru that pain ever again.
I had mines pulled when I was in my 30's and it was because they got infected and I suffered for about a month or so.... because I had to wait for the swelling and the horrible tasting abscess to clear up after it got infected, then I had it pulled and that was more pain. Long story short, I suffered a lot. So you doing it now is the correct decision.
May your pains be minimal. Good luck

My dentist started an IV on me and gave me versed. I went to sleep, and the next thing I knew, the nurse was waking me up. It took 45 minutes. I was given a prescription for some pain killers but no antibiotics. It didn't really hurt much. They numbed it pretty well. I took 2 darvocet when I got home, before the novacaine could wear off. If they give u antibiotics, it really depends on the kind they give u as to how long u have to take them. U should not be in pain for long, just be sure and do what the dentist tells u to prevent "dry socket." U should be fine. Don't worry. :)

Vicodin is pain medicine, it's not a drug to be used for fear of the procedure. Valium or equivalent should be used for your nerves. Take it back and request an anxiety drug, not a pain drug.
I had a relatively good experience. My wisdom teeth were severely impacted requiring surgical extraction. My only complaint would be that I lost about 20 lbs prior procedure and they refused to weigh me. I could eat very little due to the amount of pain I was in. General is dosed by weight, so they dosed me 20 lbs too high for general anesthesia. I woke up wailing like a banshee.
I was never in a significant amount of pain, just sore. I was given darvocet to control the pain.
They may or may not give you antibiotics depending on your individual case.

It's no fun, but generally you'll heal within about 48 hours. Unless the teeth are abcessed, you won't need antibiotics. With my own teeth and later on with my adult kids, the bigger risk is from dry socket. Ask the dentist how to care for them and be vigilant to do it exactly the way they describe it. You'll likely be just fine. You'll probably be wiped out afterward, so plan to take it easy for a couple of days. Take the vicadin, and have someone there to take you home after. Good luck!

It completely depends on a person's individual case. I only ever had one wisdom tooth (not very wise, I guess). The dentist gave me a shot of novocaine and pulled it out. No pain to speak of, no problem. As I recall, he packed the hole the tooth came out of with gauze for a few days to keep it from bleeding, but no stitches. I had to chew on the other side of my mouth for a week or so.
But for some people it is major jaw surgery, so it just depends. I completely agree with the other person who answered that you should go to a dentist who gives you an anesthetic to put you out.

Horrible-the 1st week he took out the top two. The second week the lower left. the third week the lower right-her is where the novacane wore off and all he said was just hold on we are almost there. I bit the dentist then. I had gotten no pain meds for any of the extractions. An no antibotics ether.

Yes, youll be fine. Just keep yourself calm. They should have NEVER shown you a video, they could have just told you the risks with all surgeries. They didnt show me a video, youre already scared when you find out they have to come out.
You'll be in pain for a couple days. The worst thing is the cotten in your mouth. Dont drink thru a straw. Its bad. Stay in bed.....best thing you can do.
Dont be afraid, youll be glad its over and theyre outa there! Youll be fine.

I had mine out in 11th grade. They put me to sleep so I didn't feel a thing, but mine were also impacted and had to be chipped out from my jawbone. I hurt for almost 2 months. But only took pain meds for about a week. Be sure to keep the empty sockets cleaned out b/c food can get stuck down in the holes and abscess. Everyone is different in their healing process and it will also depend on how much work they have to do to get the teeth out. good luck.

I had my wisdom teeth removed surgically and I was wanred and terrorised about all these werid things that could happen and bruises etc. But What I was told was to drink a lot of "Arnica" Tablets 2 weeks before hand to reduce swelling. Well I went in and came out, with no bleeding, no swelling and no bruising. I swear, that was the best advise I ever got. (Key tip, drink them for atleast 2 weeks before hand)

I hesitated about giving an honest answer to this one, but to tell the truth it really hurt. It was worse than childbirth. In saying that I only had a local anasthetic, a GA might be better. It hurts for about a week and by two weeks it feels back to normal, Buy plenty of ice cream before your opp and best of luck !!
