Well, there are lots of antidepressants. Some work with the serotonin in the brain, and some work with other receptors. There are some dangers to stopping an anti-depressant cold turkey. Some of them have a "withdrawal syndrome" if stopped cold turkey. They have some initial side-effects that can be uncomfortable. These side-effects get better over a couple of weeks in most cases. There are not long-term effects.

The worst problem with any anti-depressant pill, is that they are mind altering.
Also, just like a decongestant, where the congestion gets worse when the pill wears off, the depression can get worse when the pills wear off.
No matter if you take pills or not, try go get the depressing things out of your life.

i don't know personally but, I have a friend she's been on them for years, she is a basket case. Not fun to be around at all stays up all night and sleeps all day. What kind of life is that. She's still depressed. And if she's not talking about suicide, she's walking around all slow, and that's irritating. I say forget the anti depressant pills. She's always telling me i need to go get some help, and get on depression medication's I told her, "if they make me act like you, forget it." I shall not be taking them.

Yes, and they may make you giddy and too happy, and they make you look funny. A little depression is not a bad thing, so don't be quick to take anti-depressants.
I went to a shrink fifteen years ago with a pretend ailment, for reasons that existed then, and he prescribed pharmaceuticals way too much; and I discovered then the horrible truth about tranquilizers for example, namely, they made my mouth dribble. I'd be talking and somebody would look at me funny, and I would realize that my mouth was dribbling. It was a horrid experience, and the wife I had then laughed at me.
If simple tranquilizers can do that, imagine what anti-depressants could do. I shudder at the thought.

from my personal experience the withdrawls were worse than the original depression,I had a bad time coming off the pills,to the point of hearing voices. It's all a money making machine, the pills are expensive even with insurance, and the doctor only gives you so many so you keep having to go back(paying a copay).I had to wean myself off of them but became very suicidal while doing this.At one point I was sitting in the car in my garage with a knife while trying to come off them.Anyone who knows me,knows I am not suicidal...it was the pills doing this to me.
Don't start these...I was on Zoloft.
There is also MAJOR SEXUAL side effects...no matter what you do,you cannot climax...

that depends, but they can include insomnia, diarrhea, loss of sexual drive---talk to your doctor for sure. And remember, everyone reacts differently to medications.
