I guess if you keep your mouth shut so your vocal cords were operating in air, some sound waves would be transmitted into the water. I think you'd have to count on someone hearing your cries on sonar though.

if you are in a submarine at 3000 feet under water and you are given the news that you have run out of gas and there is no way to be rescued, i doubt you'll be smiling and laughing. Tears will flow freely. and you would be crying underwater.

Why are all the other answers by people who cant think out of the box??

Of course, tears have nothing to do with the environment you are in, its a glands product, but why would you be sad underwater????

Not that big sobbing cry where you take in great breaths between wailing - that doesn't work underwater.
