This is an educational dilemma.

You have to find the purpose for studying the subject and then determine how you will go about doing so.

Example : If I am bored with the subject of history and I have to do a paper (yawn) on an aspect of the French Revolution(zzz..) I would decide on an aspect that was of interest to me such as women of the French Revolution and do my paper on one of them...

Think this...
a) Why do you think it is boring subject?
b) If it's boring why to develop interest.
c)The problem here is "you have interest but unable to cope with the subject." Interest could be compulsion of curriculum or syllabus.

Let's see why you get bored with a subject.
a) You know little about the subject.
b) You do not know how this subject is useful to you.
c) Fundamental of this subject are not taught in the right way.

None other than you can decide whether you have to get bored or not; so:
1. Try to learn whether this subject is of some use to you.
If not leave it; do not study.
2. If it is useful understand what is basis of this subject.
3. When you know the basics and basis you may have to go further.

Write to me after two weeks on the results of understanding and following this.

Find a study partner except make sure you don't spend too much time having fun and no time studying.

If it is a textbook that is boring, try to read other non textbooks on the same subject.

Research the internet on the subject. Websites are available that might feature video, sound, interactive activities, news groups, discussion forums and other things you might find more enjoyable. Just try not to spend too much time getting distracted by the many entertaining things the internet has to offer (like spending time here)

A lot of us do better with visual media. See what's availalbe in places like the Discovery Channel or see whats available in educational or kids section in the video store. Libraries have video and cd collections.

Many subjects would be enhanced by a Museum. For example you will learn a lot more about fossils and the fossil record by a visit to a good Natural History museum than you will out of any textbook.

It sounds to me like you are a teacher. I would first try and somehow link the subject to something others can identify with. Perhaps tell a story about the subject and how it can relate to everyday life. Use practical examples. Encourage participation, and ask if the subject has affected anyone in their own life, or how they find the subject useful. When someone can identify with a particular subject, or see how it affects their life, it automatically becomes more interesting. Good Luck!

There is always something interesting about every subject, its just a matter of finding that spark that speaks to you. Working in adult education, we often have to answer the question, "What does this mean to me?" If there is not a real life application for an adult learner, adults tend to loose interest pretty fast. Are you trying to develop more interest in yourself or in teaching the subject? What subject is it?

emphasis and hype.

Make something look riske' or dangerous. If it is bad it will attract people.

The below are examples. Sorry not a "subject" example but you will get the idea.

Look at gmail they did an invite only for email and it build up a hype to get people wanting it.

MSN wants to compete with youtube and they will do an invite only thing as well.

You have to start loving the subject...

Basically, know how that subject affects your future...
ALL SUBJECTS HAVE A FUTURE EFFECT.

Then, keep yourself from losing interest...
When you find yourself about to be bored, keep listening and ask questions about it....

PARTICIPATION
