It depends on the state and/or agency. Where I am at, no, I do not have to give you my badge number.
Just to add, not all badges have numbers on them and there are some uniformed officers (NJSP) that don't even wear badges.

No. If the trooper is in uniform, he will be wearing his badge, and you should be able to read the number off the badge.

Yes, depending.... if he's not in uniform, then no, there's no reason for you to get his badge #...... BUT if he is in uniform and dealing with you directly, by, say, a traffic stop, I'm pretty sure he HAS to give it to you. Or at LEAST his name.... i.e. trooper brown, trooper t. smith

if he does call the barracks or the post then the badge is very visible to you when he is approaching you

no he has to give it to you, if they refuse call the trooper barraks and give them the place number or car number and they will tell you who is driving and the trooper will get yelled at.
