Their name, Happy [whatever age he or she is]th Birthday, and the date you gave it. I would avoid engraving any personalized mesages just in case the relationsip soured then the Ipod wouldn't suffer. Kinda the same thought as to why you don't want to get someone's name as a tatoo.

An iPod or any electronic isn't anything I would engrave my initials on. Electronic gadgets eventually become obsolete in time.
