How can they say their smoking doesn't affect anyone else when I can smell the smoke from the car in front of me and see their butts everywhere?!

I didn't ask the question to "get a rise" outta people, I really wanted to know what goes through some one's mind when they toss a still smoking cig out of a moving car and why they think thats ok.

When I was a smoker, I was one of the most inconsiderate people to walk the face of the earth. Smokers don't usually believe that their behaviour affects anyone but themselves. It's a rationalization that helps them deal with their cognitive-dissonance. Smokers know that they are afflicted with a destructive and disgusting habit but they can't openly admit it. They have to make believe it ain't all that bad in an effort to quash their fears of death, disease and stupidity.
While I am at it, I am sorry for the many times you had to walk behind me inhaling my cigarette smoke. I'm sorry for the many times I sat next to you on the bus smelling like an ashtray. I'm sorry that I made it hard for you to breath at the club. Most of all I apologize for endangering your life...and mine.

I'm willing to bet that non-smokers litter, too.
Why don't you post a question on here asking such? I see more people throwing away drink cups, candy bar wrappers, plastic grocery store bags, etc. every day (and missing the trash can) than I do smokers throwing down cigarette butts.
You asked this question strictly to get a rise out of people, so I suggest you thicken your skin a little and get used to the nasty, defensive, hostile replies. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

I don't get it either, my husband has his guy friends over to work in the garage one night every week and they leave a huge mess of butts in my driveway that I need to sweep up the next morning... it's so rude.
They would all freak out if anyone did that at their houses. Yet, they feel free to come over, drink our alcohol, eat our food and use our tools to work on their cars wihtout being at least considerate enough to put their trash in the trashcans a mere three feet away.
I mean, I love that they all have a great time doing guy stuff and fixing things for way less than we'd pay at an auto shop and I gladly feed them/share our things, but at least show your appreciation with a bit of respect for our home.

Smell smoke in another car ? Get a cloths pin .....Maybe, you should become a tracker if you got a nose like a blood hound.... Find dead body's or some thing use full....I'm sick of "people" non smokers..... whining about smokers....AHHHHHHHHH! ...Don't be blaming all the smokers for Some Idiots mistakes....But, you don't mind sitting in your car putting FUMES & TOXINS in our Ozone do ya ? I pay my dues just like you do..... Can't smoke any where as it is Banned....So, don't gripe about me in the "privacy "of my car or my home.... I use my ash trays and I do know what a trash can is for.....America land of the free ! Or Is it ? I DON"T LITTER !!!! I'm smoking right now ..Can ya smell it ?

Do you think that a smoker who doesn't care about his health is going to care about the environment and keeping it clean or how you feel? It is just the mentality of smokers that they are cool and in the right, and everybody else can go to hel l. I have only known one polite smoker in my life, and she was trying to quit. I would hate to be associated with a group of people like that who have a total disregard for life and the people that they are affecting.

I always thought they were biodegradable. I've learned since that they aren't, but I also think of the gutter as a kind of community dustbin; tossing a cigarette butt out the car window is different from just dropping one on the floor in someone's home. I've also come to think of cigarette butts as part of the urban landscape, like fallen leaves. So the answer is that smokers don't think there's anything wrong with it.
They also think you're being a ridiculous drama queen when you complain about the scent of smoke coming from someone else's car.

That's right, all smokers are pigs and should be shot on sight. Don't signle one group out for your hate, tho. I'm sure you have enough rage for multiple targets. No other group of people doing a legal thing ever do anything wrong.

They don't. I think people just do it with out thinking. Not every smoker is a butt throwing litter.
