I thought Jesus was better than all of us...

Human beings are on a lifetime journey during which we learn (if we press on) to become more like Jesus but along the way we face many challenges and sometimes falter. Jesus is the Son of God; we are mortals in a mortal world and until we see Him face to face, we will never reach our perfection. We are only made perfect by His grace and that will only happen when He catches His people away. Until then we try our best, we fall, He picks us up, brushes us off, and we try again, each time learning from our experiences to trust in Him and to never give up. The line from a song..."Give me Lord the mind of Jesus" is a great prayer to whisper when we feel unloving, unforgiving, or downright hateful.

I don't know who the "we" are, but if you can't live like Jesus then it's because you haven't been born again and received the Holy Spirit who begins the work of transforming you into the image of Christ or you haven't been a Christian long enough for that process to have manifested itself in your life in a significant way.

Romans 8:7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. 8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him....29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

That is why we need Jesus in our lives. We can not begin to love others without His love in us.

Live like Jesus? We don't know how Jesus lived or even whether he actually existed or not. All we have is that some people wrote about him decades after his death. It is what his followers wanted to portray him as.

Because we are NOT Jesus. If we can be like Him then we do not need Him to come and die for us.
