Those walls were there for protection; apparently they didn't work. But why did they have to be destroyed?

To get a foothold in the Promised Land, the Israelites had to conquer Jericho.

It was a major fortified town full of Canaanites who would almost certainly resent some bunch of Johnny-Come-Lately ex-nomads trying to horn in on their homeland. Being a major city, they had a major fighting force.

Now as any good military strategist will tell you, it is one incredibly dumb move to leave a strong enemy at your back.

Therefore, Jericho must fall!

The Landlord did not provide the upkeep .
They deteriorated to the point they were a danger to the children .
Licenses and inspections were forced to condemn them.
And they came a tumbling down.

You can read about it in the Bible. But God promised that he would give them the city, so the Israelites were obedient to do what God told them to do. The last time around the Israelites gave a shout and the walls collapsed.

this is one of the biblical stories that if not taken literally makes a whole lot of sense
it tells of Joshua being told along with his troops and 7 priests .. that to bring the walls down they must blow their rams horns and shout
now if you look at the symbolic message of this rather than the literal
it is saying that we can make a bigger differene with our voices that our fists
