What was your experience of this, did the guests think it was mean? We are on a really tight budget, and the most important part of the day is the getting married part, however we also want to have a small party after and we were thinking that a tea party would be really nice, elegant but nowhere near as expensive as a sit down meal. Think "Tea at the Ritz" with champagne, has anyone been to anything like that or had a similar reception?

i think its a great idea for a tight budget my suggestion would be work out the timing.. plan a late ceremony and later reception to ensure people have the opportunity to go somewhere to eat dinner perhaps try a evening or startlight/moonlight ceremony follwed by the reception this will ensure people understand it is not a dinner reception.

I had my reception in a elk's lodge and my family and friends loved it . They have plenty of room to mingle and dance and it was great. It was like one big party . Some ppl there did not even know each other but everyone had a great time and I think I even made some love connections that night without knowing it or should i say without intending too. So yes by all means have your party the way you want too. After all it is your reception do it the way you want too. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

How about getting married in the evening ?
people would have ate before they came and then have the champagne tea party after.

i do not imagine it sounds tacky. yet in case you do not employ the china, do you've someone in position who will collect it up after the reception, wash it, and then field it up and go back it to you? and in many circumstances human beings have assorted helpings...and may wish a clean dish anytime. you'll desire to let for that on your buying. also, evaluate letting human beings understand prior to time that the reception will be ordinary refreshments. no count number what time of day your reception is, there are continually those who will seek for an finished meal in the experience that they do no longer understand otherwise; and per chance they received't eat a lot in the previous. this can wreak havoc for those with blood sugar subject matters.
