How about we also sue car companies for causing auto accidents?
When that old lady rear ended me last year, the first thought that popped into my mind was "I'm going to sue the pants off Honda"

Why should we sue the cigarette companies? I am a smoker, it is my free choice to smoke. The cigarette companies are not holding a gun to my head saying smoke this shorten your life your probably going to end up with cancer, are they? No, I don't think so. If I want to smoke it is my choice. If i want to shorten my life is that not also my choice as well? I am fully aware of the risks, the cancer, my grandfather died of lung cancer due to smoking. However, I am a nice smoker. I don't smoke around those who do not smoke. I am at least considerate about it.

Congrats on you guys that have quit smoking. And sueing a car company for accidents is the dumbest thing ive ever heard. The inability to drive a car is our own faults not the auto makers. Cigs on the other hand target teens to start smoking. There is a commerical out in our area that shows how cig companys make flavored cigs to attract a younger crowed. This and peer pressure make teens want to atleast try it. They often dont even like it but keep doing it to show off to there friends and look cool. Then they get addicted and it takes 20-30 years to get off it and or a life. Now with the flavored cigs teens dont get that nasty taste in there mouth. So they can look cool and smoke something that can taste good to them. They now they are targeting kids under the age of 18 thus should be punished for ruining there lives with cancer. a good website that was started here in Ohio is STAND.org stand out and speak out against tabacco!

These companies have been sued time and time again and have paid out billions of dollars in lawsuits. The real problem lies with the government. If the government knows that this is killing hundreds of thousands of people a year then why do they allow it to stay legal? Think about it, the government makes you were seat belts. They make you wear helmets on motorcycles. If the general smoking population does not understand or care about the effects of smoking on themselves and those around them, then I think the government should step in and tell them they cannot slowly commit suicide and the tax payers are not going to pay for your skyrocketing health costs.

Because you CHOOSE to smoke, knowing full well all the deadly effects of smoking. Don't buy the cigarettes if you don't want the cancer. Could your relatives sue the owner of a bridge if you jumped off of it to commit suicide? No, because it was your choice. Think about that every time you stick one of those nasty, expensive, deadly things in your mouth.

It's really quite simple... they are not the fools who buy the cigarettes. There has been ample warning over the years that cigarettes cause all kinds of illnesses. Besides, they have been sued many times already. Don't you read the newspaper or watch TV? Good grief, man... wake up.

Because people who smoke do it through choice. They know the risks. On your basis why not sue car manufacturers for spreading car fumes and damaging health. Sue breweries for supplying alcohol causing liver problems. The list is endless. You make your choice and you take the consequences.

Anyone ever heard of Free will?!?!?!
Honestly people, being free means being free to make the wrong choices. Cheese causes heart attacks should we outlaw that too?
And by the way there have been multiple lawsuits against cigarette makers, resulting in huge payouts to state governments.
