Wow, this sounds kind of familiar - I was just like your gf and it used to drive my fiance nuts.

He is really good with his finances and took the time to draw up a spreadsheet budget for me and show me how much I could actually be saving per month. It was a revelation to me - I paid off my credit card bills and now save a good portion of my pay and try to pay cash for everything.

Maybe the thing to do is to lead by example and subtley try and do the same - bear in mind I was stubborn as a donkey when it came to "the boring facts of money" and it took my man a few goes, but he got his point through in the end!

Good luck!

Give her some more....lol
I have the same problem with my bf.
Its difficult. The first thing..no more credit card, take it away.
Secondly start with the debts. Paying them off one by one.
Put a limit on her bank account. Say she can only draw 50 bucks a day.
There is a lot, but she has to want the help. Otherwise its doomed.
You can also show her how to budget.
This much for bills, food, groceries and the rest is divided between saving and spending.
That which u save make it one of those accounts where u physically have to go into the bank to draw money. If there is any left.

Let her learn the hard way. Do not come to her rescue when she gets herself in a financial bind. Worry about your own bills and she can worry about hers.

it is not going to be easy. You have to win her trust before starting to convince her. Dont attempt until she is ready to listen. Until then, you can indirectly show her how well you manage your finances...in case you do!!

talk to her, tell her how u feel so that she will not feel intimidated. it is not easy to see saving as a virtue as i used to spend a lot of my salary on purchase. slowly help her to the goodness of saving and this should work out better than sheer critism on her habit. best wishes.

All you can do is advise, she has to take responsibility for her own financial situation.
