There are many renditions of Jesus portrait at art galleries and on Icons. Some are even of a very dark skinned Jesus. They are all most often based on the image on the Shroud of Turin.
Just do an image search under Jesus Icons to see some more authentic looking middle eastern and black Jesus's.
Also, the nutcase up there who says that the shroud was painted or made by Da Vinci is way off. The shroud material has been found to be approx 2000 years old and the image on it is found to be like a photo negative. Scientists have said that the image was the same as the ones left on sidewalks in Hiroshima and Nagasaki that were caused by a nuclear explosion. They cannot even reproduce them today.

I saw Jesus as a Child, I know many will not believe this and I don't mind. I know it's not a normal thing, I believe their are spirits in this world and that their is a spiritual warfare going on and most would think that crazy (even though the bible tells us this).
I also believe children can see these spirits when adults can not, maybe it's because they don't have a mind cluttered with so much sin.
Jesus was different then the pictures I have seen in that he has olive colored skin and his hair was curly not straight and his eyes were brown and not blue. But the main difference was that in many pictures you see a light behind Jesus, this was not right. The light came from Jesus and it gave off a warmth that was so comforting they you cant hardly imagine.
I look forward to seeing him again soon.

Artistic conventions. It has to do with culture and beliefs that are too complex to discuss here but iconic art tends to reflect cultural prejudices rather than attempt a realistic portrayal of historical figures. The artistic conventions for portraying Jesus derive from Greek portrayals of Helios the sun God.

Yes, I am sure most modern depictions of Jesus are based on the art of the early Italian artists. As for the way he looks, I am sure this suggested to the artists by the Roman Catholic church. I do not think the modern depiction of him matches what it says in the Bible, "hair of wool, skin of bronze", but it is a figure all Christians accept as truth.

All the PHOTOS of Jesus are the same because people took them with their CAMERAS, which were invented in the last 200 years. Amazing seeing as that Jesus walked the earth 2000 years ago.

I'll give you a factual answer. Jesus Christ was a Nazarene Jew whose culture practiced special vows of dedication to the Lord (God the Father) whereby abstained for a specified period of time from using alcohol, grape products, and cutting of hair and beard. That would be the reason why most art works capturing the face of Jesus has a long hair in it.

there are no photos of Jesus..lol.. even though Da Vinci used crude photography to create the Shroud of Turin, had he or anyone else been caught using this type of alchemy they would have been put to death for it. Science at one time was considered evil.. imagine that..lol..What just kills me is that nearly ALL pictures of Jesus depict him as a white man.. given where he was born and the era?.. He would have been anything BUT WHITE!.. Why they all look alike? At one time the Catholic church was so powerful that any other image would have been destroyed and the painter killed to cover it up, they've murdered millions of people for less throughout their history

I was at a friends house ( who is black ) and saw a picture of a black Jesus.
It did not look like the standard one .
I wonder how many times ,not only the story but the picture has changed?
The black Jesus picture has been around for only 50 years.
The story has been around for thousands and as you know ,people can`t even repeat gossip without putting their own spin on the story.

Most of the pictures of Jesus you see to day were of a Frenchman who lived in Paris. He lived in the Latin Quarter. They were done in the 1920s.
They made a movie about him & the artist some years ago. I forget what it was called. It wasn't a bad movie. No violence though, except people chased him everywhere to touch him. I think he went mad in the end. It was quite a sad movie. It was a true story.
