Jesus was born a Jew yes... following Him is when you become a Christian(the term was a derogatory one and Greek for little Christs)... the views He held were different than anyone of His day so He did not fit with the Jewish religion... He spoke of god as His father... the very comment that brought about His death upon the cross...If the apostles were following Christ then so are His modern disciples...

Yo're right. Many people believe that the xtian religion owes more to Paul than Jesus. Jesus was a Pharisaic Jew and as such, advised people to obey the Jewish laws and follow the religion of his fathers (although who his father was is an interesting question). He never claimed to be a messiah - again that was down to his so-called disciples, desparate to found their own new religion after JCs execution.
One thing is certain - he was never a moslem and he would have been horrified at the very idea of worshipping allah - an arab pagan deity (one of many gods and godesses in arabia). Mohommed tried to make up a story claiming this, when he was writing the koran. Like much of the koran, it's pure fiction based on a mixture of the bible, the apochryphal books and the then current arabic pagan holy books - of which there were hundreds from which to choose. In order to try to persuade people to accept it, he had to invent the story of some supernatural being dictating it to him. Funny, I've never seen any evidence for that, but then.......

In the broader idea Jesus is thought of as a Jew.
But few realize how diverse the idea of Judaism was in those days.
Many scholars think Jesus was most likely an Essene. These people were strict vegetarians with a mystical bent. The religion that they practiced was about as far from Judaism as it is practiced today as one can get.
In any case Jesus was certainly not a christian.
The christian religion was a creation of Paul the pretender. Who called himself an apostle but never actually met Jesus.
Just a little research and a bit of bible reading can show anyone with an open mind this rather quickly.
The religion of exclusivity and separation that Paul created is also about as far from the teachings of Jesus as one can get.
The true teachings of Jesus have been for the most part buried under an avalanche of religious dogma, and are found in pristine condition in only a very few places like the course in miracles.
One can find an occasional glimpse of them if you read the work of some of the modern day mystics like Merton and a few others.

Jesus Christ was a Jew.
He never made any religion, not even Christianity.
His Disciples and apostles followed His teachings.
People called Jesus Christ's followers as Christians.
Acts 11:26And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
Since Jews denied His teachings, they are still remaining as Jews.
But all these were the plan of God.

yes, Jesus was Jewish.
I suggest looking into some of the apocryphal books, such as the gospel of mary, and the gospel of phillip.
really its something you have to decide for yourself, any descision your simply told, will only have a certain degree of validity... if you research, ask, and listen, and trust God, and what he tells you, then you will find the Truth.
you might also be interested in looking up a program called "A Course in Miracles" its quite interesting.
of course the christians are going to say that they are the ones who are right and the jews are wrong, but I do not feel that jesus would be christian now, ;-)
I think its really quite an amusing thought... to think that people belive the person who was the origin of their religion, was not in fact a member, of their religion.
you have to decide for yourself. I mean why not just ask? I mean jesus himself, or god himself? I am of the opinion if you ask them to show you the truth, and listen to what they show you, that you will find the truth in a way nobody here can truly explain.

Jesus was born and raised Jewish and followed the Jewish law during his lifetime. But He stood in a unique position that He was not a follower of the Jewish religion, He was the Head of the Jewish religion.
He came with the express purpose of completing the rituals and ceremonies which had been the heart of the Jewish faith for 2000 years with His sacrificial death. Once that sacrifice had been accomplished, the relationship that the Jewish people had with God would be extended to all races of the earth. Anyone would be able to be "reborn" into the family of Abraham and receive the blessings promised to him. To teach the world of His death and ressurrection was the last commmandment Jesus gave His disciples. That is what they have been doing ever since.
The message of God went out to the entire known world in a single generation, and has been spreading and growing since. As Christians, we following the teaching of Christ which are explained by the writings of the apostles. Its like having the Cliff Notes to help you understand Shakespeare. The apostles help us to understand the life and actions of Jesus. Note that there is not a single explaination in any of the apostles writings of the sayings or teachings of Jesus. His sayings are plain enough on their own. Rather they explain his life and actions.
We follow the Lordship of Jesus Christ, but we build on the wisdom of the apostles and others down throught the ages, including Abraham, Moses, David, Elijah, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, and countless others before and after the time of Christ who have had encounters with God that help us to understand who He is. Without their writings, we would be like children who every generation had to rediscover counting, adding, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, zero, trigonomy, and more - all without a teacher, textbook, classroom, etc. Just as no one person discovered all of these to start with, so no one person could rediscover them all. No one person has ever discovered all the truth of a God in a single lifetime. It took 66 books by 40+ authors over a 1500 to 2000 year period on three continents to discover and record everything in the Bible. No one person by themselve could rediscover it all toady. So God has given us the wittness, experience and teachings of the apostles and others to help us understand the teachings and life of Christ.
We are followers of Christ, but with the aid of the wisdom of the apostles, prophets and others.
