to copy each one to disc or can i connect them both together, and if i can what cable would i want.

the easyest way out is to just burn to a CD and copy over, but if you insist on connecting them then use a Ethernet cable with router, and then youd have to setup a network, Alot of trouble, if you did the network it would be sooooo much eaiser next time, but easiest way out now is CD

To network the 2 machines you will need either a router (preferably with a modem)so that you can share internet and fild or a crossover ethernet cable to join the two directly (use will have to use Windows Networking wizard for both these options and choose which files and applications you wish to share)

To put the same bit of software on both machine will probably (unless their free) will be against their terms and conditions as you only agree to one license, although a lot of people do do this it can cause problems (especially with Roxio) is you try to download updates when they say you already have them on another machine.

Providing both operating systems are XP you can network them very simply.

Link them up with an Ethernet cable, XP will do a bit of work and then you will be able to access your laptop from your PC and vica versa. (will show as an external storage on 'My computer')

Then just drag and drop the necessary files.
