I can see that you're not from the U.S. What country are you from, and what reasons do your family give you.? In the US, it's not so important whether or not the mom or dad approves of the marriage, but whether or not two people really do love oneother. However, we do have a divorce rate of at least 50%. So what does that tell you? Perhaps your family has more insight and wisdom than you give them credit for. By the way, how old are the two of you anyway? Besides, if you both truely do love one another then putting marriage off for a while would only prove to your family how strong your love really is.

Sadly this is a common occurrence in certain 'cultures.' I think you have to make a choice: either marry the girl you love and risk losing your family, or give up the girl you love in order to keep your family. You are an adult, and I believe you should be allowed to make your own decisions. Good luck!

Patience. I believe it takes time to get into acceptance by your family or both families -- Prove them that you both are in love -- it depends on your age. If under 18, then you have no control. If 18 and up, it's up to you. All you can do is have a seat and talk with them about your feelings, about this whole thing.

Keep on speaking to your families and tell them that you guys really love each other and that you want their blessing to get married. If they are being stubborn, I suggest that you move to another location and then get married there and live happily ever after.
