The salvation army was created by William booth to serve those in need. It does not get involved in political movements and from what I see tries to stay clear of condemnation of other religion.
While is does provide service to those in need is also does conduct religious services. It did for years conduct street corner meetings along with some very good brass band music to reach those who might need to find religon in their lives. However I think this has somewhat diminished due to people complaing of noise. I know they started using very small bells at their christmass kettles due to complaints of noise by some people. Rather than offend, This organization changed these things

I used to work for the Salvation Army and I do respect the work they do but where I worked was really just a social service and not too much Christianity left in it. I wish they could hang on to Christian teaching while doing their social services. The churches have been pretty faithul to the Bible but their outreach has drifted.
