My neighbour has a westie and she swears by coconut shampoo. But my Maltese always has a dirty mouth but when you bathe her really rub shampoo on the whiskers and also use a nit comb to brush it out. You'd be amazed!
It doesn't last though!

OK I am a dog groomer and yes all my westies go out whiter than white. They just get grubby quickly. The staining round the mouth is caused by saliva. You could try one of the products that is suppose to remove saliva stains, but personally I would not worry about it. Try brushing her with a soft slicka brush, not to hard, so she is kept tangle free and that will also remove some of the grubbiness. As long as she is brushed and tangle free in between grooms (about every 8-10 weeks) then it really doesn't matter is she is not pristine. To make you feel better have a look at other westies when you are out and you will find that the majority of brown/reddish staining round their mouths and feet.
Anyway love you dog and enjoy her, being whiter than white is not that important as long as you have a happy well cared for dog.

put a fence around the garden, and only let her swim when shes allowed. Give here a bath only when there is a lot of mud on her, you can use doggy wipes for the minor mess ups Good Luck!! P.S Milkbones to Westies!

Does your groomer handstrip your westie, or does she clip it. A westies coat should be handstripped, never clipped. Clipping a westies coat ruins the coat and it will attract the dirt very easily. If the coat is handstripped a good brush through everyday should keep it clean and the skin healthy. If your groomer clips the coat, change groomers or learn to handstrip her yourself. Good luck.

My westie Thumper hates being clean, he`s not happy unless he`s wallowing in the mud, I`m sure he should have been born black!
It does make you wonder after you`ve spent ages washing and grooming them or spent money out to have them groomed why you bothered, but at the end of the day, if the dog is happy, let it carry on.

my westies are white for about five minutes after grooming- they then fight and roll around in the garden!- last time looked charlie like a mini dalmation- but like children - if they are grubby at the end of the day- it must've been a good one- relax dogs are dogs- you should have got a scottie!!

Dog shampoos are made for the colors of the dogs hair. In your case there is a special shampoo for your white coated dog. This shampoo brings out all the hues and shades in the coat to give it that pro. look. In other col lours there are different shampoos for each.. Ask your groomer what shampoo she is using on your dog and see if she will sell you some of the same shampoo for your dog. If you both use the same shampoo on your dog, then that is good for the dogs coat. Any time you have questions about grooming your dog always ask your groomer, they like to share their knowledge.. I hope this helps you... Good Luck...

you say you love her, then love her dirty. if you want her to stay clean, dont let her outside, make her an inside dog. you cant stop a dog from getting dirty, its a part of the dog, they love dirt. im sorry if it sounds harsh but it sounds like you got her for her looks and when she isnt up to your standards you try to change her, she can probably sence that aswell, you may well end up with more worse problems than her being dirty if you take it to seriously. love her, she needs your love.

The enzymes in her saliva will stain the fur around her mouth. You could try wiping her mouth area with a damp cloth after she eats. Also check her teeth to make sure she has no bad ones which might make her drool more, hence stain the fur around her mouth.

your pet is your pet - love her the way she is - as long as she is happy
she is not an ornament!
failing that ask the groomers what they do and next time you take her there sit with the groomers to watch what they do. harsh brushing with a stiff comb does wonders for a dogs coat. but i can promise you your dog will not enjoy it just like she does not enjoy going to the groomers
