XP Pro doesn't seem too bad but on the other hand I didn't pay for it, my employer did!
We are all conservative creatures and hate change, don't we?

properly because you're asking this, i assume you've in no way put in an operating gadget before. it truly is why i do not advise setting up XP. there is an threat that your workstation don't have any XP drivers, and if it truly is authentic then procuring XP must be an severe priced mistake. in case you truly hate Vista, take Linux Ubuntu Geek's suggestion and get Ubuntu. Ubuntu has astounding hardware detection and could run on some thing

Still use Windows 2000 Professional for 90%.
10% XP, it's OK but then I don't have to deal with it all the time (or buy new software or peripherals) because it's a company computer.
I can remember screaming blue-murder when my office upgraded back in the day to Windows 95. I had deadlines but still lost about one months worth of time getting it right.
After about 3 months though I upgraded my home one - time moves on.

XP was definitely an advance on what went before in terms of reliability. Service Pack 1 was a disaster and Service Pack 2 OK.
To think we are going to have to go through the whole thing again with Vista. I'm hanging on to my nice stable XP system as long as possible.

I've found XP to be bulletproof & straighforward since I started using it about 3 (?) years ago. I use a lot of audio hard/software and it has all been much more reliable & useful under XP than 98.
I don't recall having to replace anything.

I like XP the later version after tweaking anyway but I still set the look to windows classic style as I cant stand the child like interface.

I hated several of the early Beta versions, but the final release has always worked well for me.
I always tweak it to work the way I want.
I maintain a 200 machine network.
XP is by far easier than W98/ME or W2KPro.

I was running 2000 pro and hated XP, had too many bugs but now I wouldn't run anything but as it's a lot more stable. 98 also doesn't recognize large HDD'S

Not as much as I hated the transition from 3.1 to 95!

I did. It was too colorful, too easy to use--personally, I hated that "Shut Down" suddently transformed into "Turn Off"...among many other things. It's grown on me a little since its release, but I still use Windows 2000.
