I do take him for walkies twice at night. But he wants to go out more and I just can't risk letting him out on his own and I can't be out there with him constantly... I have a life too! So, how can I get it accorss to him that twice is ENOUGH?

dear lisago... i asked for HELPFUL suggestions, not a lecture on how cruel it is to keep a cat indoors. As it is, I happen to agree with you that it is natural for cats to go out and enjoy the great outdoors - THAT iS WHY I TSKE TIME TO TAKE MY CAT FOR WALKIES around the neighborhood. But our community is like a giant CAR PARK and it is simply not safe to let cats roam around out there where cars are constantly coming in and out. I AM NOT WORRIED ABOUT THE BIRDS - they can FLY can't they? I just wanted to know if there is a good way to get the message accross my cat that supervised utings at night is quite enough. I would rather limit my beloved pet's freedom to roam than risk his getting hit by a car. You would do the same for a child.

oh yes... how is it irresponsible to let a cat out?
I have two neighbors who allowed their cats to go outside for long periods of time unsupervised. I tried to gently tell them that maybe that's not a good idea. Both said to me: "Oh, cats are smart and clueey... they's be fine." Three months ago, neighbor #1's cat - Tigger - was found dead - hit bay a car. Neighbor #1's 13 -yr old son devastated. Two weeks ago, Neighbor #2"s cat - Simba - dragged himself in with a badly mangled leg and a completely broken tail - again, hit and run over by a car. Neighor #2 actually took the poor cat to me asking me to help it - she was a mess! We took Simba to the vet, but the cat's insides were bleeding. Had to be humanely euthenized.
Now tell me: who is the irresponsible owner - ME or my neighbors with their woozy unthinking sentimaental ideals about how a cat should live?

I have that as well.. I just have to endure it for awhile. Also whenever he meows to want to go out. Try telling nope and gently push him back into the house instead of letting him sit near the door. After a while, they kinda get the picture and his meowing will minimised!

No it is not enough. Cats ARE NOT meant to be kept inside all day it in not natural to them and it is cruel. If u live in a place that is not suitable to cats then u should not have them. and using the excuse that u don't want it to get hurt, it might kill a bird etc are not good enough excuses for keeping it inside. I have a cat, it has a flap and chooses when it wants to go outside. it is an animal NOT an mini human and should be allowed to work on its own instincts. how is it irresponsible to let a cat out?? so what if they kill a bird? it is what they are meant to do they are natural predators!

my idea for my cat is im going to build a pergola like area for him so he can go out there through a kitty door and do his busness and it will be like being outside but still inside. it may cost a little, but it will be well worth it in the end. also if your renting maye have a big enough birdcage built in the back maybe with access to and from the house for the cat. you may beable to build it yourself cheaply enough or have a friend do it for you. dont forget to have a door on it so you can access it if needed.
if thats not what your after, maybe buy some big indoor plants and make a little indoor/outdoor area for him/her.

Why is it that an incredible type of of the human beings replying to this placed up keep stating cats, toddlers and jealousies. i've got self belief that's because of the fact they lack analyzing comprehension skills. for occasion, many forget approximately regarding here: one million) the cat grew to become into doing this earlier infant arrived 2) cat gets an incredible type of interest and affection in the process the day. i've got not got an answer for the unique poster's subject, yet i'm surprised that an incredible type of incorporate so rapid to respond to because of the fact of their own minds they have made assumptions that are in simple terms no longer actual. Please examine and preserve the message fairly of replying with ineffective nonsense!

Make him a climbing gym and cover it with carpet. Put catnip under parts of the carpet.
Or buy him a climbing gym, some catnip toys and some other toys. Initiate play with the toys when he meows to go outside.
I think your cat is adorable for communicating his little needs, though!

Catnip. Other people try water guns to train them. It'll become a battle of wills in the end, so the best thing to do is distract them. Cats can be spiteful so best not to try them. Catnip works but you can also try getting it to chase a laser pointer or something else to capture his attention.

Get the cat fixed, if he's not already. Just let him out cats are really good about coming home. They stay where they have it made.

I'd recommend not to let him sleep too much during the day. If you play with him, or just not let him to be in the closet or in the quiet places of the house during the day he will prefer to have less activity at night. Hope it helps!

Ignore him, or spray him with a spray bottle. Let me thank you for being a responciable cat owner and not letting your cat outside to roam around free.
