few will be ready. God will come as a theif in the night, unexpectedly. Those who are ready will be taken, those who are not will be left behind.

Been ready for decades. But, the translation is not coming, but presence. All but one Bible translates the word as presence or present, in any other scripture in the Bible, except when it refers to the prophesies of the last days and the Second Coming (presence) of Christ.
So, if the prophesies are being fulfilled, than he is already here, and like the Jews of old, we have missed it. Of course, the prophesies may not being fulfilling, but than that is also what the Jews of old said about the first time Christ came. So, is it the last days, or not? If the prophesies are not really being fulfilled, than perhaps the Jews of old were also right in saying that they were not being fulfilled 2000 years ago. The reason they didn't believe it than is because the Rapture and Armageddon didn't take place at the same time. Are both Jews and Christians wrong, or have both missed the obvious?

I would be intrigued to know why you feel this is so. (serious question)
personally I am jewish by religion, but very spiritually oriented, and have some rather unusual spiritual views.
being jewish, i do not see the events you are referring to as the "second coming" but as the coming of the messiah for the first time, (and theres no "second coming" in judaism, as according to jewish views, and my personal spiritual views, the whole shebang is accomplished in one "visit".
and I do not entirely disagree, in fact I find that I am tending to belive more and more that the great event may indeed come within our lifetimes(god willing)
but of course I see the whole affair rather differently than you...
but in short answer to the question, I know I am about as ready as I'm going to be, or between now and the actual events that I'll have to be ready for, I'll be ready, same difference really IMO.
what I don't fathom is how/why people would ever feel they aren't "ready" do they not have faith in god to arrange things properly? do they truly feel god is petty enough that theres some horrible thing if you are still having sex or doing other "bad" things when the bit day comes?
I have enough faith in my god that I am not concerned. in fact I look forward to it!

I know I'm not. I can't judge anyone else but myself. I still have a lot of habits to kick before I will be ready to face God. I've already kicked one of the habits that was the hardest for me to let go(sex). Now I have to stop drinking, popping pills, and smoking before I'll be all squared away.
