...and I believe he refers to me as his "girlfriend" to his friends. He hasn't had much experience in dating. He's never been in a relationship before. We've never kissed, or held hands when we go out. He doesn't know that in order for us to be considered a couple, we need to officially make a commitment and be exclusive. Since we haven't going out that long, I'm not ready to commit. How can I let him know that we're just dating and that we haven't gone to the next level yet?

how long is a "couple of weeks"?

i would say that if i am seeing a guy exclusively for 3-4 weeks, having a good time, and feeling a connection, then i would consider us a couple.. i've never really had a discussion where i sat down and said "ok, you're my boyfriend now".. we both just knew. perhaps he is a bit too quick to judge it a couple and you are a bit weary to judge it one?

but anyways, it does sound like you need to sit down with him and have a discussion. let him know that you do not consider yourself committed to him and that you would like it if he would refrain from telling others that you are his girlfriend..

if you like this guy, know that this could backfire on you.. he might feel rejected if you tell him this and it could be the end of the dating.

have you tried making the first move? maybe he is just a bit shy and needs a nudge from out of his shell..

Just go to him and ask to talk in private and say the following:

I know that we have been seeing each other for a while, and that you are telling people / friends that I am your girlfriend and that we are a couple but I like you and I want to be honest.

I feel we haven't really say it in so many words that we are committing to each other and I feel that I want to learn more about you and my feelings for you, before we commit to each other!

I really like you and that is why I am being honest, cause if we are going to be together in the future our relationship was based on honesty.

You need to just tell him. Be straight forward. Explain that you like him and want to continue to date but right now you dont really want to get serious. Let him know that maybe you will down the road but right now thats not what you want. Good Luck.

Then he is right to consider you his girlfriend. If you take it the next level up you will become engaged. Any of my friends who are female are my girlfriends.........

bring him out with your friends and introduce him to them as your friend, not your boyfriend.
