Cat wee on my rug?

My cat wee'd on my 100% wool rug, ive tried cleaning it with the usual stuff like soapy hot water, but the smell still remains. Is there something I can use to get rid of it without ruining my rug?

My cat is 10yrs old and fully trained, this is the 1st time in 10yrs shes weed anywhere other than outside or a litter tray - even as a kitten she alwasy used her tray!! she was a bit stressed as we have just moved house.

hey! firstly, u must not use hot or warm water to clean rugs, it will fade the colors. put a small empty Tub under the efective area of the rug and pour cold water on that top of the spot. all the water will desolve in the rug and then gets into the tub under that spoted rug. I am in the rug business and im giving u a cleaning secret :) . Note: dont put ur rug in the direct sun to dry. TC

Vinegar & water in equal measure is the best, but you still may have to do this two or three times to get it all out. Do not use hot water; it's bad for the rug & amps up the odor. If the rug is small enough, put the soiled area over a bowl or pail, just touching the v&w mixture & let soak in a cool area not reached by direct sunlight, for a few hrs., then change the v&w & repeat. If she does this more than a few times, you should take her to the vet. She could have a kidney infection.

There are right ways and wrong ways to clean cat urine stains out of carpets.
Wrong ways include using soap and water, household cleaners, or perfumed sprays to try to remove stains or cover up the odors. With a sense of smell many times more sensitive than ours, cats will quickly detect the smell of their urine no matter which of the above methods you try.

The Right Way

After you have soaked up as much of the moisture as possible, spray or pour on a product made specifically for pet stains, such as an oxygen-activated formula or one that contains 'live' bacteria and enzymes.
Oxygen-activated formulas are some of the most safe and natural for your carpet fibers, and they leave behind no sticky residue like some carpet cleaners. They work under the principle of oxidation, and hydrogen peroxide is often the key ingredient in spray formulas. Oxygen-activated formulas are a powerful tool against fresh stains you detect right away.

wash it a few times, if the smell remains its probably just because its wet or it may be your sence of smell or perhaps its not just in the rug. wool tends to smell after it has been wet, it smells like urine. there are wool wash stuff, perhaps wash it in that. also dont let the cat near it unattended. cats are well know for urinating on our new and expencive items, its there way of getting attention, even if its only bad attention.

Enzyme-based cleaners do the best job.

Avoid amonia-based cleaners: they smell like cat urine and will signal the cat to keep using that spot!

get him to the vet to make sure that he doesn't have a urinary tract infection. clean the rug with nature's miracle for cats (it's in a white bottle with red lettering and can be found at most pet stores)

maybe u should train your cat not to pee all over the place maybe u need to buy a new rug sorry
