Hi Gary

Definitions of software:
* Written coded commands that tell a computer what tasks to perform. For example, Word, PhotoShop, Picture Easy, and PhotoDeluxe are software programs.

* Coded instructions (programs) that make a computer do useful work.

* Programs, procedures, rules, and any associated documentation pertaining to the operation of a system. Contrast with hardware (page ***).

* A program or set of instructions that controls the operation of a computer. Distinguished from the actual hardware of the computer.

* The programs and instructions which direct a computer.

* Generally, programs loaded into a computer from external mass storage but also extended to include operating systems and documentation.

* Programs that run on a computer. Word-processing software includes programs that enable writers to compose, edit, store, and print material. Professional quality software packages incorporate such amenities as databases that can feed the results of research electronically into the final manuscript, alphabetization and indexing functions, and capabilities for constructing tables and charts and adding graphics to the body of the manuscript. ...

* The programs that tell the computer what to do.

* Operating instructions for specific task based applications. The computer processors carry out these instructions. These include all packaged for use like image editing, word processing, databases, CAD-CAM, games, and so on. Software has to be written for a specific Computer OS.

* instructions for the computer. A series of instructions that performs a particular task is called a programme. Two major categories of software are system operating software and application software. See hardware.

* Commercially available applications sold by Vendors through public catalogue listings, COTS software is not intended to be customerised or enhanced. Contract-negotiated software developed for a specific application is not COTS software.

* Instructions for a computer, organized into sets called programs.

* Computer programs or design cards.

* computer programming code that provides a computer with instructions to perform specific tasks; a program or application.

* Coded instructions that direct the operation of a computer. A set of such instructions for accomplishing a particular task is referred to as a program. See also firmware.

* The computer program, which sends a set of instructions to the computer.

* Computer programs (note the US spelling). Component of information systems comprising instructions for hardware. Sometimes this is understood to refer to the programs and the physical media on which they are supplied.

* Computer programs, the instructions by which the machine operates, which includes both systems oriented programs (ie DOS) and applications programs (ie, word processing, database management). See also program.

* set(s) of instructions, also called program(s), that control the use of a computer

* Computer programmes, instructions or data that tell a computer what to do and can be stored electronically.

* means any software provided by AngliaCampus to enable the Customer to access or use the Service.

* The framework software used is Advanced Revelation (running on MS-DOS within a Novell Netware environment). The specially developed application programmes in this context are as much a product of this initiative as the Encyclopedia itself. At every stage in the evolution of this project, ways have been sought to increase the ability of the software to enable new styles of editorial and research work. ...

* The programs, procedures, algorithms (set of rules), and their associated documentation, for a computer system.

* About half of all practitioners today have computer science degrees, which are the most relevant degrees that are widely available. A small, but growing, number of practitioners have software engineering degrees. Today in the US, about 2,000 universities offer computer science degrees and about 50 universities offer software engineering degrees. Most SE practitioners will earn computer science degrees for decades to come, though someday, this may change.

* Written instructions for a computer.

* (computer science) written programs or procedures or rules and associated documentation pertaining to the operation of a computer system and that are stored in read/write memory; "the market for software is expected to expand"

* Computer software (or simply software) refers to one or more computer programs held in the storage of a computer for some purpose. Program software performs the function of the program it implements, either by directly providing instructions to the computer hardware or by serving as input to another piece of software.
