PetSafe™ Ultralight Sonic Bark Collar

I know it sounds cruel, but it does work and you don't have to leave it on the dog forever. It took my dog only two days of wearing the collar for only a few hours a day to stop barking. He was barking for no reason though. (except to hear himself bark I think) They also make one that sprays citronella each time the dog barks. I have a friend that bought one of those and it didn't work so well. It was just spraying randomly, but maybe it was faulty. I have also seen a device that just sits on the counter and when the dog barks it emits a high frequency sound. Hope this helps and good luck.

We have an Alaskan husky who does the same thing.Barks when people comes in the yard, barks when people knock on the door. Thats just his way to alert you there is someone there. When our dog meets someone new he imeadatley acts terrified runs around with his tail between his leggs doing a low barking noise. But thats only if they come in. If hes out walking he gets excited and wants to play with the other dogs. most dogs that bark when someone is near their territory are excellent watchdogs. A watchdog is diifferent than a guard dog. A watch do alerts you to a strangers presence.so actually consider it a good thing. An after you see what he is barking at pat him on the head give him love and tell him good boy.

You can get a device that sprays either citron or plain air every time the dog barks, it's a little cruel but for obsessive dogs it's not so bad. I've seen 2 people that it works for, one dog barked too much, the other wouldn't come when called, they are both fine now

"how can i stop my dog barking??"

My dogs bark after I take my dog for a walk....

But seriously, you need to find out why he is barking (territory/encouragement/trainuing/other) and cure that then he can be trained not to bark atthe wrong time...

Barbara Woodhouse used to say (quite correctly) there is no such thing as a bad dog, only a bad owner. The dog thinks this is what he should do - educate him.

if your giving it attention after or during it barking it will keep barking. an anti barking collor can help, but not the shock ones as there cruel. theres a spray one which sprays in there face if they bark, you can put it on them at a certain time at night and they will soon get the picture not to bark.
it does get realy lonely at night out in the dark by yourself, maybe he/she needs a companion? but may also make them bark more. if the dog is allowed inside, maybe making a place for it inside where it wont do any damage and can feel safer.

Is the dog new to your house?

'Normal' sounds will soon get used to and begin ignoring.

If not new to the house, then just give it a stern telling off when it barks unneccesarily.

Dont tell it off for the wrong reason.....I don't tell off my dog when it barks at people at the door or on my driveway. Its good to have an alarm sometimes.

I dont rate the collars - dont think they are particulary effective or humane. Get an empty plastic bottle and fill it with small stones...every time the dog barks when someone is at your door, give the bottle a rattle or try filling a plant squirter with water and squirting the dog.

hey norton, dogs always barks when they are scared, frightened or even threatened. I have 2 chow chows and a pomeranian, usually my pom was the noisiest one. If my pom always barks, I usually pick him up and pat him on his head until his anger goes away. One of my chow chow, always barks whenever there's somebody in the house, so I taught her how to be friendly and sociable. Always let your dogs meet other people, especially if you trained them while there still young. Let them walk out through parks and let some people caress them. I even let them stay on different houses for one night. Dogs love great attention to people. Hope I helped you a lot. Good luck on your dog!

barking collar. $75 at a pet store... i highly recommend it. My husband is an apartment manager (we allow pets) and he tells some of the residents, because of noise violations, that they have to go out and spend the money on a barking collar. I forgot how the collar works, but anyone in the pet store should be able to explain (it dosn't hurt your pet, permanently, it just creates a sharp pain when they bark and they learn that if they bark it hurts and the collar actually works). or better yet, go online and look up barking collar and see what you find!

When my dogs barks i take her in and leave her in a spare room until she stops. When she does stop i make a fuss of her and give her a treat such as a wee bit of chicken, something that your dog never gets. But you must do it all the time. Another is just t ignore your dog
