Have had insomnia for the past year and I changed my lifestyle completely - i sleep like a brick now - without ever having to take sleeping pills etc.
Major changes:
I go to the gym before work (6am) (5-6 days a week)
I do yoga 2 times a week after work - the meditation helps me to relax my thoughts before I go to bed - many people cant sleep because their minds are too active.
I take melatonin 6mg before I go to bed.
And don't stress about it... just go with the flow. If you can't sleep, get out of bed - go to the living room and read. there is nothing more annoying and irritating than lying in bed trying to sleep for hours... you will feel even more grumpy the next day.

I have worked shift work for 26 years. I work six day shifts, off two days, work seven evening shifts, off two days, then work seven midnights. The sleep problem comes when I try to sleep the next night following midnights. It takes at least five nights to get a full night's sleep because I have trouble getting midnight shift out of my system. I've tried everything under the sun. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. I have learned over the years not to fight it. If I lay there for about an hour, I go ahead and get up. I watch TV, or play my guitar, or read, or surf the net. Just depends on what mood I'm in. A few years ago I used Halcyon. It worked great, but I was afraid of getting hooked on it so I quit. Like I said, I try not to fight it. If I don't sleep, I try to stay awake and stay active till the next night. Lay off the caffine, and try not to overeat. I sleep like a baby on midnight shift. You'd think after all these years I would have found either a straight day job or a straight midnight job.

nghtol and things like that are available in the chemists . and if you go to a herbal shop then they will have a few suggestions . but i watched a programme the other day about people with broken sleep . or even no sleep and the doctor on it was saying , try and stay awake for 24 hrs . dont let yourself nod off or anything and the next night set a time to go to bed . and if you stick to the time to get up and go to sleep you should be able to get into a routine . good luck .

it depends on how much you want to trade your yahoo time for sleep. this activity could be a source of sleepless enjoyment. it is now 4:am in the morning and I don't feel sleepless if I got the munches here and the lites and the music and the comforts, as the other factors sieze your moments like eyes that don't shut and empty locked voids of writer block syndrome. bad diet is the main cause of the food allergies and they are expensive to get a handle on and change as the variables cause more variables.but that will give you something to think about when your sleeping. loblood sugar, too much coffee, difficult to answer situations that take too much time and thought to resolve can be keeping you up.

Benadryl helps me get to sleep. I have the same problem that you have. It helps me a lot, and you don't need a script for it.
