I think some people are just afraid of doctors. I wouldn't want to rely on info here either, but not all the answers are terrible. I just started loggin in here recently, when I have a minute, and I've seen some good advice. 90% of it is sketchy at best, but hey. Sometimes it can take a while to get in to see your Doc; people probably would like to have some kind of answer in the meantime.

Speaking of advice, my hair is on fire, and it really hurts. I can't get in to see my doctor until Monday; what do you guys think I should do until then?

Doctors dont always listen. If someone Y!answers with the name of a condition, at least the questioner has something to go by. I mean, a stuffy nose and a deviated septum can superficially seem similar. If doctors dont take the time or are rushed (and always feel oblilgated to give a diagnosis) an intelligent person can discuss and maybe disagree with the doctor, getting his attention that there is more information than what he/she investigated.

HOWEVER, I very much agree that anyone sitting at the computer typing out that they are vomiting, bleeding and have diarrhrea, can't breath, are having chest pain etc etc is a bit slow on the uptake.Y!Answers is not the place for immediate problems. I cant believe when I see this. I wonder if they are sincere and stupid or having fun on Y!Answers with bogus symptoms and are sick in another way.

Everytime I log on here, I tell people to go to the doctor. Tonight, some 25 year old had had chest pain for 24 hours. How do you get this dense? Another guy that had had surgery asked the same question 22 times and I'm sure he is still asking. Go figure. When I have a medical question, I ask my doctor.

What about the dozens of "Am I pregnant?" questions that appear during the course of an afternoon? I'd be more afraid to post a serious medical question on here than to just simple make a doctor's appointment and talk in private.

I agree i wouldn't take it to heart. But, an answer that someone posts could be a good start of finding out what the heck is going on. Then when you go to a dr. you can also ask the dr. about some of the answers you might receive.

You don't have to take the advice. Sometimes, it is nice to hear what someone else may have tried that did, or did not work.
