I'm a firm believer in the benefits of the "family bed". Each family should decide for itself when it would be best to switch to individual beds, but if anyone is having trouble sleeping because of the crowded bed, then steps should be taken immediately. My 4-year-old decided herself that she wanted to start sleeping in her own bed and is quite proud of herself.
If your child(ren) want(s) to sleep in your bed and you have no hang ups about it, go for it. If it makes you or the other parent uncomfortable for any reason, though, then you should discourage this. The unease will be felt.
There are many benefits to sharing a bed, and the family really is closer for doing so. Sometimes children want to share their parents' bed because they don't see them enough during the day. This is normal and reasonable.
Again, if it's something you would like to do, don't take any crap from anyone, but if it's something that feels uncomfortable to you, don't worry about it. We are all different.

I raised 3 kids who occasionally slept with us..they feel safe, it did not lead to other problems, they did if they had a bad dream, or there was a thunder/lightning storm, or if the littlest one did the other one wanted to...it was no big deal, it wasn't all the time, and they are all perfectly normal adults with children of their own now, so I believe it is a parental choice, and not a dr.spock answer by people who don't raise your children..

If the kids are not getting up in the night, age is not a problem.
