have you ever believed in a 'creator' that made it all before you became a 'thinker' or an atheist or whatever your belief is now?

I have always had an understanding, even as a child, that this can't be right. I was always warned that God will know, but somehow I alway knew that wasn't the case. Even after my confirmation, I knew that there was no god judging me, and I would often make up things in confession because I didn't want the priest to know what I actually did. I just didn't trust him. A funny thing about that though, my priest thought I was probably the only Child mass murderer in the world.

Grew up in a church that was pretty right-wing fundie and had some pretty funny ideas. For a while I assumed they really were what all Christians were like, so I rejected all of Christianity.

I've expanded my view of religion in general and now greatly respect some of it, but have never felt any personal need for it once the "break" was made.

Yes, it would be very hard not to, raised in an environment where you are told from infancy that the Earth was created by a God who watches over us without being seen himself. It is a form of child abuse. Fortunately I recovered, aged about 11, I think.

yes, that was before I was knowledged in the field of science.
"God" was an idea that was suggested to me. I accepted it and tried to comprehend it. Without ever having proof, it led me to search of knowledge about our existence. I learned about Evolution of Species, the universe and it's outter and inner workings, chemistry & some physics. I'll tell you what to do if you're a fence sitter.

Make two lists.
1st list: is about Science and Everything you and other scientists know to be true.

2nd list: is about "God" (without using the Bible as it is not EVIDENCE only man's word) and the things that you know to be true about God and his existence.

No wonder why religious congregations fight the teaching of evolution in schools, they're too afraid everyone will convert to atheism. "LORD knows" they have to get their 10% from the congregation or church would go broke if Creationism wasn't taught by the church.

I did read somewhere that rudimentary hind legs appear briefly in whale and dolphin embryos. What was God thinking? That did it for me, and I joined the United Athiest Church, and got baptized and indoctrinated...

On a bright, glorious and splendid morning in June I went to the altar and gave my heart to Charles Darwin and Mr. Snoid, but I was secretly thinking of Milly and entertaining warm sensations as I gazed at her sitting sweetly in the congregtion.

Iman, faith, goes up and down with life's little trials and tribulations.

you remember God most when you are in trouble and least when you are happy and content. you'll be successful when you can remember Him all the time.

I'be been through the whole loop and have plateaued at Islam.

Alhamdulillah.

May Allah guide you too.

Yes, and I fought tooth and nail to keep my faith. I prayed to god to help me keep my faith, in fact, because I wanted so badly to remain a Christian.

Odd that he didn't answer that prayer, isn't it? You would think that an atheist is someone that revolted, not someone who was forced into it by his own rationality, eh?

I mean, really... I'll bet you've never considered the possibility that an atheist may have become one against his will, eh? I went down kicking and screaming, sweetie...
