Do take her to the vet but it sounds like a nervous response; dogs will "clean up" their own vomit or faeces if they feel threatened. It's a feral response to keep "the enemy" from tracking them. She could have a nutrition problem or it could just be nerves. She's still a puppy, and the mother dog does eat her pups' faeces. She will probably grow out of this.
And don't forget to get obedience training, preferably done by you under supervision of an expert and in a group. This will help socialize your pup, and a working dog is a happy dog. Big dogs like mastiffs need to feel they are "doing something" and they love to feel that they are "getting it right" and making you happy. They are loyal, loving pets but can be dominating if not properly socialized. (I'm sure you already know, she will also get as big as a pony and it will be easier to handle her if she has learned basic obedience!)
Good luck with your furry!

She is not doing anything that she believes is wrong. She was taught this by her mother, when the mom kept the nest clean. When mom became too overwhelmed to keep clean after all the litter, the pups were good little helpers and did it themselves....They didn't have gloves and bags, so just did it the way they could. He is just being fastidious. Please DON'T scold her or make a big deal over it, . That will only confuse her. She will not get the point, and you will have a traumatized dog.

Dog's ancesters have done this for eons, to keep their area clean and to not let predators know where they live. It is as natural for them as hand washing is for people.

The only solution is to consistantly beat her to it. Hopefully she will learn that you can be trused to clean it up so she doesn't have to.... Meanwhille, there is an additive available at all pet supplies that will make the stuff very bitter. (Forbid) This may help some... Often pineapple chunks in the food will help, as this makes poo very bitter..
Note: the ones that do this are usually the easiest to house train, as they are good house keepers

Hey, I asked this same question about my shih tsu a couple of weeks ago and it got kicked off by the powers that be??? So good luck with this question?? What I do know is that there is a med. you can get from a feed store if you have one near you or from your vet. It's called Deter and it has stopped my pup from eating her poop. Mine would eat it so fast, right after pooping she would turn around and eat it right away. Alot of people will tell you that your dog is lacking some vitamin or nutrient and that is not true. I have also heard that dogs like to eat other dogs or cats poop because they can smell a different food in it. My vet tells me that this may be true if your dog is around other animals that have different diets. Not the deal in my case. Mine just ate her own. It's a dog thing and rawhide bones are mainly the culprit, they do not digest well and your dog can smell them in the poop. With Deter, I could feed my dog a steak dinner (I wouldn't, she has a good diet of Royal Canin and her treats of course) but, with Deter she stills smells her poop, as I guess all dogs do, and then walks away! Try Deter, it works! My girl use to carry her poop to her bed to eat it, she was serious! And of course, she still has rawhide bones!

After reading the other posts,I see someone mentioned Forbid, Forbid is another med. like Deter. I have not used Forbid, but sure that both work just the same. Don't know about Forbid, but Deter tastes good to the dog and I give it as a treat...ha!

Seriously, some pets eat their own poo because there are nutrients in it. However, not all the poo that they poo (no pun intended) has this, so they won't do it all the time. A trip to the vet would be a good idea if you're still concerned.

As with what others said I'd get your puppy to a vet to suss it out but in the meantime you could try feeding her pineapple, it makes the poop smell SO revolting that the dog won't want to eat it.

by way of fact dogs have such sturdy sense of scent, they scent each and every element individually. and because dogs nutrition on no account incredibly have the each and all the minerals and supplementations necessary. So while your domestic dog starts to eat its own feces, you're able to pass to the vet and ask what you're able to desire to do. ensure you shop your domestic dog from ingesting it by way of fact it could make him ill and he can get ailment from the micro organism and pollutants contemporary in feces.

You might not be feeding her the proper amount of vitamins and minerals. Take her to a veterinarian and ask what kind of food you should feed her and when.
