Of course. They are designed for patients who might hurt themselves using the walls or floor. White was selected because it has a neutral effect on the patient (does not depress or stimulate).

They still have rooms with padded walls at the local jail! They put you in there if you're drunk cause there's nothing in there except a drain in the middle of the floor and a camera so they can keep an eye on ya.

It is very easy to see who has no sort of experience in psychiatry on this question!!The "padded" rooms as you call it, are still very much used. They are used as a place where an agitated patient can calm down..and there are no objects with which the patient can harm themselves or others. It is NOT used a form of punishment anymore. It is more of a protective deterrent. Please dont believe most of what is written on here. I actually had to laugh out loud at some of the outrageous answers!!

Yes they are. I wouldn't call it a rubber room though, the walls are pretty solid and you can really hurt yourself if you try to bang your head on to the walls.

I should know, I've been in one. They put me in there Stripped naked with only a hospital gown on.

Truth be told, I was sane when I went into the hospital, but went insane when I was put in treatment.
