Over a year ago i had a tooth pulled & to this day my gums are extrememly tender & ache all the time. This is on the left side upper where there are 3 teeth missing. I had no trouble with the other 2 extractions but this one is very painful even after all this time. I have had horror stories with dentists & am afraid to go back. I've tried anbesol, hot cloths, hydrogen peroxide rinsing,222's,extra strength tylenol & nothing works. Any suggestions?

Much as I hate to say it, it looks like you are going to have to go back to the dentist, since it is not normal for it to still be painful after this much time. It sounds like an infection, and the sooner you get it treated, the easier it will be to heal it. There may be a part of the tooth still left there, too. That happened to me. Good luck to you. I hate to go to the dentist, too.

Some of the root of the tooth could have been left in and is infected. Antibiotics will not reach this area as it's not vascular for antibiotic delivery. You will need to have an evaulation done.

Please note that leaving it uncared for is a danger to your health. Your teeth and gums are a direct window to the over all health of your body. Infections in the mouth can spread from the root into the tissue and bone, requiring grafting or other MAJOR work. The longer you wait, the more it's going to cost. The infection can also get into your blood stream and poison you.

First of all it may well be understood that there is no escape from a second dental appointment. You have dragged your suffering too far. There is no reason for pain to remain for so long unless there is a deep rooted cause of infection, possibly due to part of tooth still hiding inside as pointed out by 420Linda or some bone damage in that area which is taking too long to heal.

Go see a dentist. If you're worried about going back to where you went before see someone else but do get it looked at, could be that the longer you leave it like it is, the worse the end result will be. It really shouldn't be that tender for that long.

you really should be brave and go back because if something is wrong, leaving it will make the problem worse. if the problem gets worse than that means more pain. Tackle the problem now and you will be better off
