I get muscle contractions most times on my legs and sometimes on my feet. I do not know why but they occur mostly late at night. It gets serious to the point that I stay awake for like 1hour or so. Most times I have to get up from bed and walk around or massage my leg before I can get some relief.
At times it happens every night for like 2-3 weeks! And sometimes they disappear and I do'nt even remember I have them untill they start recurring. Any suggestions? Thank you!

It could be an electrolyte imbalance too. You might want to take a little salt before bed.

Also taking calcium can be beneficial.

When you have them it's best to stretch the muscle & apply pressure at the same time. It is the quickest way to get rid of the cramp.

You could be low in either your potassium or your calcium. You can safely increase the potassium by drinking tomato juice (first choice) or bananas or OJ. Calcium, you can use dairy or take a supplement. I do not recommend a potassium supplement without a doctor checking your electrolytes as potassium can get out of balance and cause cardiac arrest. Tomato juice or a food high in potassium will do it. Also, stay hydrated during the day.

You could be dehydrated , you need to drink more fluids. Drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water a day, eight ounces. My husband felt the same way you do and went to a doctor and told him your not drinking a enough water. He has been drinking more water and felt better. Good luck.

Sounds like you need to intake more potasium in your diet. Bananas & Tomatoes are 2 good sources that come to mind at the moment.
Salt by itself will not do it & to much salt can be harmful. Double check w/your doc,if you have one or do a web search for low potasium & or leg cramping.

Youre perhaps not getting good oxygen to the muscles. To increase blood flow, massaging is good but you need to drink more fluids and excercise the muscles.

If you have trouble walking long distances and get pain in your leg...you may have peripheral vascular disease......this is very serious..... you are also prone to terrible leg cramps... other causes of cramp are dehydration...(most likely)
excessive alcohol....(causing dehydration).....and hormone imbalance.....go see a doc and ask for an anti-spasmodic drug....
