step one, you say 'we need to talk'
he walks, you say 'sit down, it's just a talk'
he smiles politely back at you
you stare politely right on through
some sort of window to your right
as he goes left and you stay right
between the lines of fear and blame
you begin to wonder why you came

where did i go wrong?
i lost a friend somewhere along in the bitterness
and i would have stayed up with you all night
had i known how to save a life

let him know that you know best
'cause afterall, you do know best
try to slip passed his defense
without granting innocence
lay down a list of what is wrong
things you told him all along
pray to god he hears you
and pray to god he hears you

and where did i go wrong?
i lost a friend somewhere along in the bitterness
and i would have stayed up with you all night
had i known how to save a life

as he begins to raise his voice
you lower yours and grant him one last choice
drive until you lose the road
or break with the ones you've followed
he will do one of two things
he will admit to everything
or he'll say he's just not the same
and you'll begin to wonder why you came

where did i go wrong?
i lost a friend somewhere along in the bitterness
and i would have stayed up with you all night
had i known how to save a life

Yes, I have stay up all night with someone that is suicidal. I also gotten a lot a people help. It is the best thing for them is get them help. For most part it is usually a attention getter the person wants help but they do not know how to get for there self. There usually more then one thing going one that would lead a person to think about suicide. They need there friend and family they need a friend like you. If you got them help they may be mad at you now but, keep in mind that they are not in the best frame of mind. At some point down the road they will thank you. Best of wishes keep your head up. May God procet and watch over both you and your friend,

This would be a decent song, write some music for it and get rich. I have stayed up with suicidal friends, talking. Also I have had to take a friend to a mental health clinic when our talk was not enough anymore. I have also had friends commite suicide, and wished I could have done something more to stop it. Life sucks some times, but don't kill yourself over it.

Honest and moving poem you have there. I just want to add this. The ones who are left behind by a person committing suicide are in NO way responsible. We all have a choice..good or bad..a CHOICE.

No. But in my addiction I lived in an apartment and the neighbor told me he was gonna kill himself and I told him to make sure he aims towards the front of his apartment so the bullet didn't go through the wall and hit one of my kids. Not quite as sweet as the others, but true.

Yes! and it make's you angry and upset that they do nothing, but think about it everytime. They try and do something bad in your presence and drown you of your energy.I have once been in a situation that i was going to commit suicide.said thing's that i possibly could have done only to realize that there's more important thing's in your life that will hold you back.Im not an expert, but ive tried out of carelessness of my family.

no i haven't but if that situation arises, i'll be more than willing to stay up all night to save someone....i have done something similar...and that's listen to one of my friends cry to me on the phone....just for an hour..though and not all night...and not suicidal, just lonely

I've had to keep an eye on folks a time or two as part of "barracks duty" when I had it.
