Well, if you had someone writing you "love letters" wouldn't you read them? Spend more time in His word that He wrote through Godly men to share with you so you would not feel so alone while you were waiting for His second coming through Jesus Christ.
Read the Word because the WORD IS JESUS.
Pray without ceasing
Sing and worship Him in thought and deed and song and with the lifting of hands and with the bowing of your head.
Just be with Him in your quiet hours. Be Still and know that He is God. :)
Fellowship with other believers that He might do a mighty work through them and speak to you through their thoughts and deeds in your life.
May I also recommend a wonderful book by Brother Lawrence called, "Practicing the Presence of God" Do look it up. It is exactly what you seem to be looking for right now.
PS You just got closer to Him while asking this question. :)
Also note that the enemy is swift through unbelievers to try and quench your desire. Ignore them and keep your eyes on Jesus because IF GOD IS FOR US WHO CAN BE AGAINST US? No one!

Talk to God about everything and thank Him. I love to go outdoors and talk to Him about His creation! It's TRULY amazing!! Listen to Christian music that you like. Close your eyes and sing along from your heart! Read the Bible and meditate on what the Lord has done for you. AND, ask God to give you more and more love for Him and to draw you closer to Him! He will do it!! He wants this more than anything!! He is not distant or angry; God is Love. He wants a relationship with you!! There WILL be times when the Lord won't seem to be there, or listening, but He is; you have His promises from the Bible: ..."He will be with you; He will neither fail you nor forsake you." Deuteronomy 31:8 Also, Matthew 28:20: ..."And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age." (Jesus speaking) The Bible says that if you draw near to God, He will draw near to you! (I forget the chapter and verse on that one) This has all really helped me; I know it will help you! God bless!

When you first believed in Jesus as your personal savior, You were brought very close to God, in fact, you couldn't be any closer. Many Christians seem to think that their feelings are somehow a barometer to their closeness to God but not so! You have eternal life and can never again come into condemnation so just be happy that someone else cleared the way for you.

I think that the fact that you are asking this question is the first step to receiving close relationship with God.
Next step is to ask him, ask for more wisdom and how to relate to him,......Jesus is the gateway to the Father,.....and the Holy Spirit is our comforter, guide, and enforcer.
He is a King and should be treated as so, enter the Palace via the Temple (your body, heart,& mind) with love, humble worship and gratefulness at which time he will recieve you even closer,.... your mission is to see his face,...... to do that you must have no shame (by living in pure integrity with forgiveness given and received) ,......at that time you commune with him as your Father and you are his son.
Much love and God bless

You're God's creation, God wants to have fellowship/relationship with you. It's good that you're seeking him so don't give up! Remember, ask, seek and knock and the doors will be opened to you!
Start with a prayer. Be honest with God and say what's on your mind, remember, prayer is having a conversation with God.
I suggest you read "The Journey" by Billy Graham, but more importantly, read the bible!
Hope that helps. May you have grace and peace from our Lord Jesus Christ.

Starting doing good you get closet to God if you behave badly you get away from him. Whenever you get a question, an example like this one get a bible and open it wherever you will find the answer there. Pray (talk to God) and ask for guidance, one example of this. God I want to know you better, because I know I love you and I want to feel you in my life, direct me.
You will encounter the miracle of knowing God and be happy forever, yes, here in earth and probably eternity.

Pray and really talk to God. You need to establish a personal relationship with him. Only you can do that. Prayer and daily studying the scriptures help. Give all your troubles to God. Just talk to him.

by allowing his spirit to minister to your spirit. praying without ceasing, reading his word, listening to him, constantly trying to stay in his will, once you are born again and filled with his spirit it will lead you and comfort you and guide you letting you know that he is right there with you always, never leaving you and anything you want to know just ask and he will tell and show you. just listen to that still audible voice of the lord. God is a spirit and those that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. ask and ye shall receive, you have not cause you ask not. ask! ask him and he will be there right there for you. continue to study his word learn who he is. his deity. the love he has for you and the love you have for him and your thirst will continue to grow and you will see yourself getting closer and closer to him

Just talk to him. He's already next to you. Admit you need His help to deal with the wrong things you do and have done. Accept his offer of help and ask him to come and live with you and help you.
Do an Alpha or 'invesigating Christianity' course at a lively local church.
